If I'm not mistaken a boot manager is a program running while booting
your system and turns all services on (deamons, drivers, file systems
etc...) and then directs you to the log-in screen where you type you username
and password and the log-in to your

No, it seems that it was the boot manager that created all this situation.
Now in edgy, now that a different boot manager is installed, i haven't faced
that problem...

i can load the text mode (ctrl+alt+f1) but there is nothing i tried that
will work, i'vve tried updating the distro, reinstalling gdm, installing
and configuring the drivers for graphic, reinstalling ubuntu desktop...
nothing work...

And I get the black screen before logging.
Actually I can't even log in. The login screen doesn't appear at all...
(When that's happen does pressing ctrl-alt-f1 and then ctrl-alt-f7 fixes the

black screen appears, can you change to the console hitting ctrl-alt-f1?
Can you check /var/log/gdm/:0.log and /var/log/Xorg.*.log for anything
interesting?
