Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, there is not enough information for us to
reproduce the bug. Can you do the following:
Open a terminal (Applications - Accessories - Terminal)
At the command prompt, type:
nautilus
and press enter. This

I must add:
I have played around with the os trying to see what is going on. None of the
Places menu items will function. The icon appears in the tray for a few
seconds then disappears. I feel that one of the last updates that I
nonchalantly let run messed up the pointers in the os where the
