Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit
Some applications can open files that have been gzipped or bzipped. For example: 1. Print a page to file (example.pdf, example.ps) from Firefox in Ubuntu 10.04 2. Gzip & Bzip both files (example.pdf.gz, example.pdf.bz2, example.ps.gz, example.ps.bz2) using the Nautilus context-menu "Compress..." item. 3. Observe that all six resulting files are associated with Evince, and can be opened without trouble. Inkscape, GIMP and some other applications also support this on writing. Similar functionality is desirable for gedit. $ lsb_release -rd && apt-cache policy gedit Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release: 10.04 gedit: Installed: 2.30.0git20100413-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.30.0git20100413-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.30.0git20100413-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- support opening compressed files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565735 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
