I can confirm this is happening with the Edgy RC Live CD. I have a
Toshiba Portege M500 (T2300 chipset 1.66GHz Core Duo). It's fine on the
Dapper installtion on that laptop.
I'll try the release later although the version hasn't changed.

edgy is frozen, if the bug is still happening that's not likely to
change before edgy
