It seems fixed for me.
I am running empathy now without a freeze.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem, but Ubuntu freezes only with wifi on (as it
is here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/492758 ).
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit 2.6.32-23-generic .
If I can do more let me know.
