10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. But now also Nautilus could not create the
following required folders: /home/user/Desktop, /home/user/.nautilus.
The user is an sudoer when needed and use a .ecryptfs user map.

What I finally did to work around this (if I can remember correctly):
I completely deleted my primary domain user's folder that I was concerned with.
/home/Domain-Name/username
I re-logged in as that user, allowing the machine to automatically create that
users folder again.

from 9.10 and one installed from scratch. Both use domain logins and
NFS-mounted home directories (from Isilon storage, however, not

Someone on a forum suggested un-installing gdm from a terminal and then
reinstalling it. This seems rather drastic and likely to cause problems
with many dependencies.

Some things I've tried, per various posts in the forums:
sudo chown UID#:GID# /home/likewise-open/MYDOMAIN/username/.ICEauthority
sudo chmod 0600 ~/.ICEauthority
sudo chmod 755 /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.*
Still can't login graphically to that account. I can login with my
local admin user account, so
