The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been
no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue
as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you
still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions.

I reopened the bug report because this is still an issue and has not
changed over the last three Ubuntu releases (Karmic to Maverick). I am
currently running Ubuntu Maverick on a Intel i5 quad core CPU and
Nautilus is still extremely slow to open. The first time Nautilus opens
a folder it takes abo

If you mean log out and back in, then yes - it doesn't change anything.

Uninstalling appmenu-gtk didn't help.
(btw I'm not using Unity - I just wanted to test it on my laptop, and forgot to
remove it)

tiny folders (like folders with one file only).
