Requiring Indicator Applet to correctly show keyboard layout (or else
you get just a dumb icon) is a *bad decision* and yes it's very
annoying. Can't believe what the Gnome programmers are focused on these
days...

not able to reproduce it here under Ubuntu Maverick ,I have just added a
second keyboard layout and is displayed fine with ambiance theme, by the
way, there is not a keyboard applet available under Maverick because is
dispatched automatically when you add an entra layout with gnome-
keyboard-proper
