Similar things happen on the desktop itself - the home folder is labeled
home (small h!) even with German locale, and Computer is also not
translated to Rechner (see attached screenshot).

it's a translation issue, it doesn't happen there with french, note that
if a Desktop directory exist xdg-user-dirs-gtk will keep this one for
compatibility rather than creating a translated one which would lead to
have 2 directories with different content
