I am too having the same problem.
Neither on my Google Apps Account chat settings page nor in Empathy
Google account setup window, I can locate Use old SSL setting.
Can you help me out?

I was able to fix this issue for myself by checking Use old SSL and
specifying talk.google.com in the server field for my google talk
business account. I suspect this may vary depending on how the google
apps admin configured google talk for their domain.

Is the checkbox Use Old SSL in the advanced settings checked? I fixed
this by unchecking it.

Here's a sample.
Note: the few-seconds pause at the end comes when the user is prompted
to answer a dialog box from Bug #701640 (which, despite its status, is
not fixed).

thanks for the bug report. Open HelpDebug and select gabble in the drop
down menu, click clear button and then come back to empathy(without
closing the debug window) and enable your business account, let it
connect/fail when that happens click on the save button in the debug
window and attach that
