The output for dpkg -l libfaad2-0 (l lowercase) is:

Ok... please reinstall libfaad2-0 from the official Ubuntu packages in
multiverse. Your's is from a 3rd party repository (probably Debian
Multimedia?) and incompatible with the Ubuntu one...
sudo apt-get install libfaad2-0/edgy
should do this.
** Changed in: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu)
Status:
Thank you very much Sebastian !
Now all work fine

Can you put that file online? It looks like the gstreamer codec required
to play it is not installed. Reassigning to gstreamer0.10, might not be
a bug though, only a package to install

Edgy: no audio for mp4 files
Hi Kevin and Sebastien,
The MP4 video file that I have used to test this bug is very big (more than
300MB) and is downloadable via BitTorrent from this web page:
http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Conference_Movies.818.0.html
In particular my file can be downloaded with this torrent link:
The file is working fine for me...
Do you really have gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse installed?
What's the output of
gst-inspect-0.10 faad
gst-inspect-0.10 ffdec_mpeg40
?

Hi Sebastian,
I assure you that I have installed all GStreamer packages.
To prove you that it's true I attach the screenshot of my Synaptic listing of
installed packages (see file named Synaptic-GStreamer-packages.png)
The output of the commands you suggest me is the following:

I know it sounds stupid, but could you reinstall all the gst .10
packages? Just to be sure, there shouldn't be this problem.

Thank you for your quickly answers !
So,
as Kevin suggest me, I have reinstalled all packages concerning
gstreamer (plugins, libraries, totem), but the problem is still present.
For Sebastian these are the outputs for the commands:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -L gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
/.
That's interesting... please run
GST_DEBUG=5 GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 gst-inspect-0.10 faad gst.log
and attach the created gst.log file here (maybe needs gzipping or
something first because it's too large)

using your suggested command I have received these messagges in my

Since this is a public file (or so it seems, a conference on Blender)
can you hook me up with a link to the file? I'd like to try it on my

For the record, if you need this stream soon, vlc should have no issue
playing it, and
Hi,
I have discovered that some MOV video files have this problem too.
Before Edgy, I have used Dapper, and with Dapper these video files (MP4,
MOV) played well in GStreamer.

Have you installed all the necessary gstreamer plugins? I believe
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg enables aac playback.
