I am seeing this same bug as well, when trying to connect with Empathy
(under Ubuntu 12.04) via SIP to a Cisco VCS server over Cisco ipsec VPN.
Confirmed with a wireshark capture that the SIP REGISTER requests are
going out with the local LAN address instead of the tunnel source
address.

Any updates on this? This would be really nice to have.

I am seeing this issue on 11.10 (Oneiric) as well, Empathy version:
3.2.0. I would really like to use Empathy, but this is a show stopper
for me. Any updates?

I am seeing this as well with 2.34.0-0ubuntu3.1 using an openvpn tunnel.
The reason appears to be a bug in the Empathy client - it is sending
traffic over the vpn tunnel with the wrong (local) source IP address.
