hmmm I got a perfect set for similar time from California --- ftp.rzone.de ping statistics --- 2575 packets transmitted, 2575 received, 0% packet loss, time 2575395ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 169.253/172.042/459.499/7.316 ms So when the network is this good do you still see the same behavior. Maybe

Hi, sorry I was to fast: It worked only once: I had opened nautilus with the (standard) home directory and could open a second tab using ctrl-T. But then again, when I tried to change from home to a network directory, this took forever and the network directory thus was never loaded, which worked
