Nope, don't know where they come from either. According to dpkg -S nothing 'owns' those files, only the directory '/var/lib/gconf/'. *shrug*. I suppose I could delete everything in that directory and see what breaks or gets recreated. -- gconf is storing both compressed and uncompressed trees
