When gedit is invoked from terminal via gksu, for example,
gksu gedit /etc/fstab
on closing gedit several warnings are seen such as
(gedit:2057): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into 
`/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to create file 
'/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.38EFVV': No such file or directory
and
(gedit:2057): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of 
`/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file or directory
