This error happens when fall-back icon theme not installed or not
choosed in .gtk2.config file. For instance, I have same issue with
Gentoo Linux (KDE 4), where fallback icon theme was not present, so
solution was to install package 'x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme' and apply
it in KDE system confi
This bug is still present in 10.04 LTS. Since it's LTS, it seems the fix
released should be backported to Lucid, or am I wrong?

hm.m. strike my lightdm comment above as I said that I saw it under
Xephyr.
I just tested here on precise development system:

This was fixed somewhere in the oneiric development cycle.
I suspect it was related to lightdm, but it is not reproducible now.
