This might be also a telepathy-indicator bug. The triangle is always on while telepathy-indicator is running. If it's not - the messaging menu never shows triangle at the Chat item. Even if Empathy is launched and running. Setting StartupNotify=true to empathy .desktop launcher doesn't change
