I have a Packard Bell dot s f3711 and am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I encountered the same problem but could solve it by adding reboot=e to the kernel command line. So do: - edit file /etc/default/grub as root (sudo gedit /etc/default/grub) - add reboot=e to the entry GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT -
