seems like a gnome-shell issue since the shell panel is misplaced as
well

After a recent update, Nautilus now behaves properly if I killall
nautilus and then restart it, after pugging in the external monitor. If
I have Nautilus running and I plug in the monitor, it still behaves as
showin the screenshots that I provided.
It's good progress, but I still want to keep
I just wanted to wake up this bug. Here's a screenshot taken this
morning from a fairly up-to-date Precise laptop.
