Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? May you try to reproduce this with a newer version of Ubuntu
like Feisty or
I'm not sure, I'm using Feisty now and I have a volume control in Totem,
however now in Kubuntu my mute button doesn't work and I have no volume
control in Kaffiene. So I guess I traded problems from Gnome to KDE. The
volume control on my keyboard works fine but the mute button on my
keyboard
marking unconfirmed for now, maybe somebody else get the bug and can
work on it

Does it happen while reading a file with a sound track? Could you try
with totem-gstreamer?

It happened with my video files which all have sound. I tried to load
totem-xine today and it won't run at all. The terminal window doesn't show
errors. I installed totem-gstreamer and it won't run either.

Thank you for your bug. Does it happen with totem-xine only? Does it
work fine with the gnome volume mixer?

I don't have any problems with the gnome volume mixer. Turning up the
volume with the gnome mixer does not effect totem-xine. I attached a
screenshot. On the screenshot you can see the volume control being
greyed out.
