I don't know if it helps, but I have just tested searching in Nautilus
on 12.04 x64 and all seems fine.

Well, why does one search for a file? I knew it was in there somewhere,
I knew approximately what it was called, and I wanted to find it. So I
used the Nautilus GoSearch for files (ctrl-F) functionality. But
