Yes, i can select it even though it is grey. I didn't think about
clicking it, as i just assumed that since it was grey it wouldn't work.

the option is grey out but can you use it anyway? there is a known
rendering bug that valid options are incorrectly displayed as
unactivated sometime, they still work though

You should be able to select that option even if it is greyed out for some
reason (seb says it's a rendering bug). It's just that after a reboot it's not
grey. It's always selectable though (except when it's in it's original size)

Also, the bug #402642 reference is a completely different bug. I'll

If you put an icon on the desktop (In Gnome Fallback mode) you can right
click and select resize icon.
This works fine.
However, once you again

Another interesting thing - after a reboot and the icon not in its
original size, the Restore Size option isn't greyed out anymore; it's
regular black.

you are correct, the option does appear after a reboot. I had not tried
this when i first discovered the bug.
I just thought to myself - huh? i can resize an icon? cool... lets try
it. then found out i couldn't revert it, except manually.
