Same problem here! I updated Dapper and now I'm having problems with HAL
initialization. Now I can't access my smb shares and things like that. It's not
a problem with one removable device, it's a problem with the whole hal daemon,
wich at first fails to initialize and then initializes but
Not at the moment - I've just disabled the brightness handling code in
gnome-power-manager because it's slightly broken on some of the systems
we'll support. I'll be working on that over this weekend - if it works,
then that would be a sensible thing to add.

Hm, it is actually working now. Closing the lid, choosing suspend in the
logout menu and in the gpm tray icon all work. (To answer the question,
I have that lock file).
I'm a bit confused as I did try several times yesterday, and rebooted to

Erich, this bug is about the smb printing backend, as the title clearly
says. The bug description is a segfault in the process launched by
/usr/lib/cups/backend/smb. That file is a symlink to smbspool.
The segfault in smbspool is easily reproducible by the one-liner echo
something | smbspool 99
Thank you for the patch Daniel, I've used it for this upload which fixes
the issue:
