[Bug 49429] Opening links in Gaim always opens firefox regardless of preferred browser

2006-06-12 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

Using Gaim 1.5 in Kubuntu Dapper. I want Gaim to open URLs in Konqueror.
However, if I choose Konqueror, it will still open the URL with Firefox.
If Firefox is not installed, Gaim will produce a pop up informing that
it cannot find the 'firefox' executable, despite the fact that I have
Konqueror selected. I can work around this with the Custom browser
selection, but the fact that Gaim still opens firefox even when a non-
custom, non-Firefox browser is selected is definately a bug.

[Bug 40795] Re: cannot write /var/cache/cups/ppds.dat

2006-06-12 Thread joosteto
I just tried on the live Ubuntu 6.06 CD:

  dpkg --force-depends -i hplip_0.9.11-2_i386.deb hplip-
data_0.9.11-2_all.deb

but that didn't solve the problem. Unfortunately the debian unstable
packages want to pull in different python and libc versions, so I
haven't tried using apt-get or friends.

To resume:
Ubuntu 6.06: problem as described above
Debian-testing (as of last weeks): Same problem.
  Debian-unstable (tried hplip-0.9.11-2): Works OK.
  Ubuntu 5.10: Works OK.

[Bug 49434] No way to use actual desktop screenshot in g-s's screensavers

2006-06-12 Thread Brian Burger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

In 5.10's xscreensaver, there was a checkbox for 'Use actual screenshot
in screensavers'; this is missing entirely from gnome-screensaver's GUI,
and it makes a number of the screensavers (Distort, AntSpotlight,
Mirrorblob, and a large number of others) use the ugly multi-colour
test pattern default instead of the user's actual desktop.

Like the butchering of xchat into xchat-gnome, I'm afraid this is
another Gnome must have a simple UI attempt gone too far...

Or maybe it does respect the KDE settings. I changed the KDE settings to

Paul, sorry for the fuzz. I can't reproduce the issue now (while we were
having a really, really bad day due to the respawn and other stupid
issues with a IBM R50 laptop only 2 weeks ago). It must have been a
combination of older kernels (might even have been a non upgraded kernel
from an older Dapper beta). There are other sleep/resume issues, but
none has to do with the infinite respawn in this bug. Sorry, again, for
the confusion; as far as I'm concerned, it's fixed.

[Bug 49444] Erroneous display of From field

2006-06-12 Thread Blue
Public bug reported:

The From line/string presented by evolution has some characters missing and
some twisted.
For example , the original string in the message source is :

From: asf.ro PostMaster [EMAIL PROTECTED]

However, evolution displays it as :

From: asf.roP ostMaster [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This happens always in evolutions for the error messages sent by mailservers.
Other email clients work fine;
The string is correct in the message source shown by evolution with CTRL-U but

[Bug 23768] Re: /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector should have different access permissions

2006-06-12 Thread BernardB
Entries in /sys can be chown'd and chmod'd:

Perhaps /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/* could be chgrp'd to admin
and chmod'd 664 on boot? (And cpufreq selector made to just test if it
can write to the files it needs before complaining). In fact, it's
really just a handful of files that need chmod'ing, not the entire
directory.

No suid root need.

Although perhaps we want some scripts to run in order to do this
chmodding when CPUs are hotplugged too ;)

[Bug 49451] New events from Evolution are marked private on the pilot

private though.

[Bug 49452] Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder

2006-06-12 Thread chombee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Attempt to open a remote folder over SSH with nautilus.

Nautilus freezes (all windows and the desktop icons). killall nautilus
is required (which the average user won't know, they'd need a restart).
Nautilus just freezes immediately after activating the desktop icon or
nautilus bookmark for the remote folder. IIRC, I was actually asked for
my remote password before it froze one time, but usually it freezes
immediately after activating the folder icon. This happens with
bookmarks to SSH folders and with desktop icons I've created through the
Places-Connect to Server.

This didn't happen on the same machine before upgrading to dapper,

I can confirm this. I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 in a really large coprorate
network with over 100 separate domains and hundreds of thousands
machines. It takes me nearly 15 minutes to cancel a constant stream of
auth popups. Switching from SMB to another network printer protocol in
between two popups doesn't do anything. They just keep coming.

[Bug 34276] Re: Some screensavers cannot be configured

2006-06-12 Thread Bobby Feagins
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 22007 ***

Another issue with the new gnome-screensaver. I always use the random
screensaver mode, but now I can't pick which screensavers I want
enabled. There are several installed screensavers that I don't like or
cause problems, and I don't want them included in the random rotation.
Since these are bundled together in packages, I can't uninstall the ones
I don't like without hacking source code. Much less user friendly than
giving us simple configuration options.

Bug is still present, tried in gedit and GIMP.

In pygtk at least, the problem seems to be due to a delete_event signal

[Bug 49483] rhythmbox close button should minimise to tray

2006-06-12 Thread Matthew Carroll
Public bug reported:

i regularly use both gaim and rhythmbox. when i click the 'x' in the top
right of the window to 'close' gaim, it actaully minimises to the system
tray rather than closing the application (which is preferable behaviour,
imho). however when i hit 'x' in rhythmbox it closes the application.
this inconsistency in the user interfaces is confusing (and frustrating
when my currently playing music stops mid-track)... i'm not sure which
behaviour is considered 'correct', but they should be consistent, and
since my preference for rhythmbox is to close the window and keep the
application running in the tray, so i'm filing this here.

[Bug 49482] Folders shown at bottom when using 'sort folders before files' pref with 'reversed order' option

2006-06-12 Thread Dennis Hotson
Public bug reported:

In the file browser, folders are located at the bottom when using the
'Sort folders before files' preference in conjunction with the 'Reversed
order' option.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Make sure the 'Sort folders before files' preference is checked in the
nautilus preferences.
2. Right click in a folder, goto 'Arrange items' and make sure 'Reversed order'
is checked.
3. Notice that the folders now appear at the bottom of the list.

I would expect the folders to be always located at the top when using
the 'Sort folders before files' preference.

If Gaim is using the web browser specified by the KDE setting then
Gaim's preferences window should not show the web browser preference.
It sounds like this is not the case.

Also, even if Custom is selected in Gaim's preferences then it should

Oh, and if Gaim is using the KDE browser it might be good to put a

interesting. if you uses the Music menu in Rhytmbox and select close, it

A quick fix is to Music Close in the menu list, or you can simply

with a fix to this.

[Bug 44101] Re: [Dapper] gnome-sound-properties always defaults to first card

2006-06-12 Thread cparker
I'm also experiencing this problem.

I just upgraded to 6.06 LTS from 5.10 maybe a half hour ago using the
Update Manager. Sound was working without a problem in 5.10. Now there's
no sound.

If I go to System - Preferences - Sound, my USB camera that has a
microphone in it (Logitech QuickCam) is selected as Default sound
card. There are three choices:

1. Camera
2. MPU-401 UART
3. NVidia nForce2

If I select the third option, I am able to click the play buttons next
to each sound that has a value assigned to it (I have the ESD checkbox
checked). Upon selection of the correct Default sound card option, the
only choice I have is to click the Close button on the lower-right
corner of the window.

Following this, I am still unable to play sounds. When I open up the
Sound Preferences window again, the Default sound card option is reset
back to Camera.

Dennis Kaarsemaker a écrit ce qui suit, le 12/06/06 10:18 :
OpenOffice.org2 does not exist in dapper. It's called OpenOffice.org.

That's the point: ooo2 doesn't exist in Dapper but it appears above
others in the Applications menu and it is the default application for
ooo documents in Nautilus.

After some research with Google, I found that the buggy
/etc/gnome/defaults.list alias /usr/share/applications/defaults.list is
the cause of the Nautilus bug. I could not find yet the buggy
configuration file responsible for the menu bug but I corrected it
through alacarte (after correcting first the smeg bug in the menus!).

These bugs reveal a feature problem (in Gnome? Ubuntu?): these questions
are poorly documented for the average user and there is no open with
editor or dialog at hand. If the configuration files received with the
distribution are buggy (as is the case with Dapper), there is little an
average user can do (except light a candle :-).

Launchpad doesn't seem to have voting ability like Bugzilla, so I will

I didn't understand why the icon changed, the other one was clear and
looked rather good. The new one is ambiguous at best, you -have- to
hover over it to have any clue what it's talking about. I knew what the
first one meant right away. Having to reboot should happen rarely
enough in LTS (if ever?) that I don't think it's worth distinguishing
them with a bad icon. Why not make the current update icon into the
reboot icon, and use the old update icon for, well, updates? To me,
this actually looks more like a power icon. Just an idea...

[Bug 49452] Re: Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder

2006-06-12 Thread William Grant
Thanks for the report. Does the hang also occur if you use other Gnome-
VFS types (WebDAV, SMB, etc.), or if you access files from the remote
location using gedit, for example?

[Bug 49522] Can't play free format MP3

2006-06-12 Thread Paulo J. S. Silva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

Gstreamer 0.10 can not play freeformat mp3 (gstreamer 0.8 with the mad
plugin can read them well, as well as mpg321).

It is simple to reproduce:

1) Rip any music to wav in /tmp

2) Compress it with lame using the --freeformat option:

   lame --freeformat -b 128 my_music.wav

3) Try to play it using gstreamer:

   gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///tmp/my_music.wav.mp3

If you want I can upload a short mp3 sample that presents the problem.

[Bug 49525] Opening files on remote FTP makes server go crazy

2006-06-12 Thread Celso Pinto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I'm trying to open a movie by double-clicking on the file icon in
Nautilus and this fires up Totem. Totem then starts seeking the remote
file which is slow and completely hogs the server.

I'm attaching a sample of the FTP server log. A very acceptable solution
if for Totem to first copy the file locally and only when the download
finishes open the local file, instead of using seeks on an FTP server by
opening and closing client data sockets.

[Bug 49526] The login to Network computers does not allow username

2006-06-12 Thread jond
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am on a network with many Apple computers running Mac OS X. These
computer all turn on sharing through the bonjour protocol. When I click
on Places-Network Servers I can see all of the computers that share
themselves. If I then click on the computer I would like to connect to
through ssh I am prompted for the password.

I am a little confused. First where do I type in my username? I assume
it thinks I am trying to log in with my gnome username. Unfortunately
this computer does not have that username so it will not work. I want to
change my username for this connection much like the effect of

$ ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The way it currently is makes it impossible for me to log in.

[Bug 49482] Re: Folders shown at bottom when using 'sort folders before files' pref with 'reversed order' option

2006-06-12 Thread Dennis Hotson
I would expect that the 'reversed order' only affects whether the sort
is ascending or descending, not whether the folders come first or not.
Simply reversing the list (as opposed to changing the order) is less
useful IMHO.

When using the 'Sort folders before files', I expected that the '
reversed order' would be something like: folders Z-A.. then files Z-A.
