I can confirm this bug. I get exactly the same symptoms described in the
second comment.
About ftp urls : gnome-open freezes on them (does'nt do anything but does'nt
terminate either), evolution freezes when clicking on an ftp:// links in an
email, nautilus can't open ftp folders anymore, etc.

same problem appears under Windows so it seems to be a Sony ACPI bug. If

Sorry for the delayed response. I upgraded my PC motherboard to an AMD64 x 2
unit, and installed the 64-bit Ubuntu. Before I upgraded my system, the
suggested fix did allow me to minimize programs and select them, again.
However, the minimized programs did not appear as buttons on the lower

though a list of minimized programs and restore the selected program to
full size. This is different than having minimized buttons, but I think
it is OK. I have since upgraded my system to AMD64x2 processor and
