[Bug 125666] Re: lowercase 'e' won't type into terminal at all

2007-07-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. Could you look if there is a menu accelerator
assigned to e? One possible reason is that you have editable shortcuts
and that you pressed e when a menu item was selected and the action
got assigned to it

This stops me for migration whole company from Windows to Linux.

I'm not sure why the icon is correct in the edition dialog, I suspect
that the actual bug is that firefox launcher used to have Icon=mozilla-

Gnome panel correctly manage those two displays except for the notification

[Bug 114498] Re: MASTER GTK font sizes too large or too small

2007-07-27 Thread Alexander Sack

  Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

I've recently upgraded to Gutsy, and the fonts in my programs became
larger. This is actually good: GTK is now paying attention to the DPI of
  my screen.

However, my screen has an absurd DPI (147x145; 1920x1200 @ 15.4), and I
don't need large fonts, so I set my font size smaller.

I noticed that all GTK font selection dialogs have a minimum size of
8.0, which is actually still at bit large (compared to pixel density).
It's possible to manually enter a lower value (and I did), but I think
that a few values lower than 8 should be present, especially because
more high-pixel-density panels are expected in the future.

2007-07-27 Thread Roberto Caro
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 119213 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119213

The problem I encountered a few weeks ago was an erratic problem. Sometimes the
icons from the panel changed spaces sometimes they did not.
I got a 200GB disk, and made a clean installation of Ubuntu 7.04, and it works
even better than before. The icons do not change, and I can get more features
of my nvidia graphics cards using Beryl.

The prior disk I had was a 60GB, and I had used since I began searching
for a good distro, and I kept installing them over and over.

If I could suggest, to the problems of this kind, to grab a clean disk, and
install Ubuntu from scratch, and many problems will clear by them selves.
This problem from my end can be closed.

[Bug 4405] update-notifier swallows keyboard focus

2007-07-27 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Description of the problem:
The update-notifier applet seems to have the ability to swallow keyboard focus.
Once swallowed the keyboard focus is never seen again in that panel.

Steps to reproduce (tricky):
1. Focus the top expanded edge panel at the top of the screen with the
notification area in it (I usually do this using ctrl-alt-tab).
2. Press tab and check where the keyboard focus is (usually on the the firefox
globe).
3. Use tab to progress to the notification area.

Expected results:
Dotted outline around each thing in notification area, or dotted outline around
empty grey area if notification area is empty.

Actual results:
No dotted outline appears around anything. Pressing tab does not move to the
next widget in the panel practically impossible to get keyboard focus back to
the top panel again.

Additional information:
Killing off update-notifier allows the foucs to work as expected.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Low
 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 128776] nautilus crash because cannot locate bonobo factory

2007-07-27 Thread Francesco Fumanti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus crashes when I change from list view to icon view; and
viceversa. It also crashes when I try to open a folder in the nautilus
window.

I get an error dialog telling me that it could not locate the bonobo
factory. As my dist-upgrade from feisty to gutsy went not completely
smooth, I reinstalled with Synaptic Package Manager everything that was
found by doing a bonobo search and that was marked as installed. But it
did not solve the problem.

Unfortunately, the crash does not launch apport; however it dumps a core
and a nautilus error-log in my home directory.

Sorry - spoke too soon. All the keys appear to work (haven't tried
function keys yet) EXCEPT for shift+3 (£ sign on a UK keyboard) and
shift+7 (ampersand - ).

Instead of £ I get 3 and instead of I get k (lower case).

When using a local keyboard / screen these keys do what they should do.

[Bug 128793] Notification area breaks on secondary monitor (nvidia)

2007-07-27 Thread Sebastian Schauenburg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

On my first monitor everything seems fine when I start apps like gaim
etc. which show up in the notification area. On my secondary monitor the
notification area doesn't work at all (but IS added to the panel). Even
if I use 'alltray', it confirms that I have no notification area on my
2nd monitor. The strange thing is, I can 'see' that I've added a
notification area (it looks the same as on my main monitor, except for
the fact that no icons show up).

Note: I'm NOT using Beryl/Compiz at the moment.

Distribution: Ubuntu Feisty (7.04)
Kernel: 2.6.20-16-generic
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 6600GT
Drivers: nvidia (binary drivers from the repository)
Config: Seperate X sessions (NO TwinView/XInerama)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/122295 (no dual screen issue)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/12696 (too old and

[Bug 128807] Evince is broken display latex in PDFs

2007-07-27 Thread Benjamin Redelings
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Hi,

I updated my gutsy/AMD64 install around the end of June, and suddenly
incurred a lot of PDF problems. One problem that remains is that evince
can no longer view PDF files created by latex. What happens is that the
entire page of document text now display in the upper left quarter of
the screen, while the rest is blank. On the other hand, images display
correctly.

If I zoom in, then the images get larger, but the text does not.
Additionally, math text works OK (e.g. math fonts, math symbols). The
PDF documents display correctly in acroread (on another machine) or in
xpdf (on this machine). But Evince displays the test incorrectly.

Interestingly, in the preview images, the text is actually slightly too
large.

Also, anti-aliasing is messed up.

Here is a summary of the fonts in the PDF:

[Bug 123848] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_set_line_width()

2007-07-27 Thread Kevin Godby
Potential fix below.

When I ran 'gnome-appearance-properties' from a terminal, I saw a few
errors like:

/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Warn: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32

To resolve this issue, I added to following two lines:

Option AddARGBGLXVisuals True
Option DisableGLXRootClippingTrue

to the Screen section of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and restarted X
Windows (logout of Gnome and at the login screen, press Ctrl-Alt-
Backspace, then login again).

After logging back in again, enabling desktop effects worked.

Some specs:
 - nVidia Go 7600 video card
 - Using the nvidia Xorg driver (not nv)
 - Kernel version: 2.6.22-8-generic
 - compiz package version 1:0.5.1+git20070725-0ubuntu1

[Bug 87054] Re: SN9C201 webcam driver is not supported

2007-07-27 Thread kaouete
Looks like linux-projects.org has a working driver, but it is a closed
source one and there is only a deb for feisty ...

I guess w will have to wait for spca50x :)

[Bug 126359] Re: GDM not showing Mongolian

2007-07-27 Thread Dulmandakh Sukhbaatar
I forgot to mention some details. It's gutsy, and mn langpack installed.
When I choose mongolian as a default language, and choosing default from
GDM I can run GNOME in mongolian. Otherwise I have no chance to run
mongolian.

[Bug 128821] [gutsy] Rhythmbox - can't create a playlist on the fly

2007-07-27 Thread Nick Ali
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a brand new Gutsy install.

I import a folder of songs.

Right click on a track - Add to Playlist - New Playlist. Nothing
happens, a new playlist is not created.

If I create a playlist called newplaylist and then do Right click on a
track - Add to Playlist - newplaylist, the track is not added to the
playlist.

[Bug 128823] Nautilus Places duplicate entry for Documents

2007-07-27 Thread Rob H
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

It seems like this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/22628 is back in
Gutsy. The Places menu shows Documents twice for me. If I look in
Nautilus, there is only 1 in the Bookmarks section on the lower part.
Removing it from the Bookmarks also happens to remove *both* from the
Places menu leaving me with none. Adding it as a Bookmark again puts it
back where there's 1 in Nautilus and 2 in Places.

[Bug 125179] Re: when vino is running for several hours, performance degrades, making xorg to eat up cpu usage

2007-07-27 Thread eldragon
well, actually, i wouldnt know how to reproduce the bugit just happens
when vino is up and running...
it took me a while to figure this out since vino wasnt actually showing any
performance degrading...
when the server was runningbeing connected to it (or not), performance
would degrade with time.
the process being problematic when vino is running, is not vino itself, but
xorg. could it be xorg at fault instead of vino?
killing vino fixes the issue for me.
ive been tracking xorg's logs and the kernel logs for a while trying to figure
out what the problem could be, vino isnt in them. i ended up killing vino by
chance. and presto.

[Bug 128847] [gutsy] gdm.conf now forces -dpi 96 by default

2007-07-27 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Between gdm 2.19.4-0ubuntu1 and 2.19.4-0ubuntu2, the X server command was
changed to
  command=/usr/bin/X -dpi 96 -br -audit 0
I have a higher-resolution display, so my fonts became smaller. This change is
not explicitly mentioned in the changelog, so I assume it was overlooked during
the Debian sync.

In a time when high-resolution displays are becoming more popular, 96
DPI is not reasonable as a universal default anymore. Please remove
-dpi 96 and let the X server autodetect the correct resolution.
