Volume control in gnome-applets has gone through very unfortunate
redesign regarding both look and usability. It is much harder for a user
to adjust the volume now because it requires moving a pointer in two
directions and the slide is placed further from the icon.

Apparently, there are many ways to control the backlight, and while
using the kernel is the default on your hardware, it is possible to
change that with xrandr. Take a look at bug 367309 for how to do this.
Could you check if you have the same weird behavior with the other
settings?

I'm sorry, but an encrypted home directory and gdm-autologin are two
features that are simply incompatible.
We handled this in the installer by allowing you to only one of 3 different
options:
1) auto login (no password)
2) login with a password
3) login with a password and decrypt your home
We are closing this bug report as it lacks the information, described in
the previous comments, we need to investigate the problem further.
However, please reopen it if you can give us the missing information and
