I have the same issues on an Asus eeepc 901, running Ubuntu Netbook
Remix 9.04, 2.6.28-11-generic. Running on battery power, when I dim my
display beyond the idle dimness and let it sit until my computer is
finally considered idle, the display brightens to the idle dimness!

Evolution now opens without any problems. Its probably caused by some
other updates but to be honest I do not remember any related to the
evolution or it's environment.
For me this bug can be marked as invalid for now.
