problems with it since jaunty, but Mike.lifeguard has. He might have a

[Bug 398077] [NEW] No apparent way to restore default session start programs

2009-07-11 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Dear friends,

I think that there should be a way to tell which session startup
programs are from the default set.

Also, I think that there should be a way to restore them.

For example, if a user deletes by accident the evolution alarm notifier,
he might not even know which one he accidentally deleted and he might
miss an appointment!

Perhaps there should be a warning/confirmation dialog before deletion.

Many blessings.

[Bug 397412] Re: brasero fails when burning DVD

2009-07-11 Thread Noel Harvie
Having read an article about bugs in wodim and all sorts of controversy with
the original cdrtools, I managed to replace the cdrecord and mkisofs on my
system with 'originals' from
http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html

A simulation burn passed but my delight was short lived as again, an
error occurred halfway through the write and the log shows the same
issue:

BraseroCDRecord stderr: cdrecord: Input/output error. write_g1: scsi
sendcmd: no error

Does it matter that I'm using SATA hdd and dvdrw? The drive controller in my
system is :
Intel Corporation 82801FR/FRW (ICH6R/ICH6RW) SATA Controller (rev 03)

I'll now revert my system back to the original wodim packages and I'll
investigate what this 'write_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error' is all about.

A victorious workaround! - I installed Nero Linux Trial 3.5.2.1 and it
so far works beautifully. I've managed to write discs that have so far
failed, using the same ISO images.

Of course I'd rather use the native utilities, however I've abandoned
those until I learn more about this bug, or it finally is resolved in an

[Bug 390504] Re: gnome-settings-daemon should keep its opinions about my disk management to itself

2009-07-11 Thread Malcolm Scott
In current karmic I'm getting these warnings pop up every minute or so,
for a few read-only NFS filesystems. As Steve said, it is useless to
provide warnings for filesystems to which the user cannot write (nor
indeed can anyone else on the system, in this case). And I'm not sure
why they're popping up unreasonably frequently... if you need more info
to debug this, let me know.

[Bug 398157] [NEW] Feature request: option to change the local display name of a folder without renaming the folder on a server

2009-07-11 Thread lol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Unless I missed something, it is currently not possible to change the
display name of an IMAP folder without renaming the folder on the
server. But IMHO, this is an increasingly important feature.

The rational behind this request is more or less the same than for the
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206061: interoperability.

More and more people need to be able to check their emails from
different computers, and the use of webmail is becoming wide-spread. But
those interfaces don't let you the choice of how to name the main
folders (inbox, sent, trash, etc.).

For example, with my ISP I have:
- INBOX
- DRAFT
- OUTBOX
- QUARANTINE
- TRASH
and I would like to see:
- Inbox
- Draft
- Sent
- Junk
- Trash
but renaming the folders breaks the webmail interface. The issue is even more
annoying when you want to set up a system in a different language... Beside the
fact that upper-case names are ugly, I don't think that my grand-mother should
have to learn what OUTBOX and QUARANTINE mean in French!

It would be great if it was possible to change the display name in the
properties of the folder. This would allow Evolution to play nicely with
other clients, and specially webmail interfaces, on which we have very
little control (that and an official alternative to the trash and junk
vfolders would be much appreciated).

[Bug 357368] Re: Evolution duplicates my e-mails when on Imap

2009-07-11 Thread Hélio Nunes
To better describe: it duplicate all headers on the imap folder when I
receive new email (automatic check). I think it occurs more often if I
already have unread emails on the folder... I think it only occurs on
the folder selected when automatic check begins... It is really
annoying: after the header duplication, if I select the first one
(always the first), I receive a fetch error. If I close evolution and rm
all folders.db I get the right headers until next check.

I will fill the upstream bug, but I may need some help.

[Bug 358391] Re: Window games should start in the centre of the screen

2009-07-11 Thread Jon Dowland
My comments: definitely a window manager issue, although maybe some
games could provide hints to the WM. The concept of centered doesn't
even make sense in some environments (tiled awesome, ion2, ion3, etc.).
If a game does try to position itself centrally, it would no doubt
suffer from many bugs relating to what centre means in multi-screen
environments, etc.

installer from being started for files which are not audio-only.
Accordingly nominating the bug for jaunty and subscribing the sponsors

[Bug 193637] Re: Change spell checker language

2009-07-11 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Hey, is there any chance to get this fixed? And why it is marked as a
wishlist? Firefox's Gecko has a feature to set a spellchecker's
dictionary (i.e. to change spellchecker.dictionary from en-US to e.g.
lt_LT in about:config) and which doesn't work in Epiphany for
particular. It's certainly not a wishlist, no any additional features
are requested.

[Bug 398165] [NEW] Press Extract Button on menu then push open cd tray on labtop program freezes then crashes.

2009-07-11 Thread DevilTheory
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Pressed extract button by accident then opened up cd tray manually on side of
labtop program froze then crashed. Obviously the program was attempting to
extract data from the cd before the cd was removed. To save such
issue from happening again maybe you can code in your program to check if cd
tray is being opened and cancel any operations. Im using ubuntu 9.04 with an
acer 5315-2492 labtop 2.13ghz celeron processor, 1gb of ram, 160gb hdd,
dvd-Super Multi DL

[Bug 343707] Re: Rhythmbox tries to find a codec for a m3u/html file

2009-07-11 Thread Martin Mai
Note for the sponsors:
I was suffering from the bug when trying it with the file the reporter
provided. After applying the patch, the annoying plugin installer has gone (of
course only for files that are not audio-only)

The diff is about 2500 lines and seems to do very much, but there are
only changes in the metadata folder and something of the code was
moved to rhythmdb/rhythmdb.c.

Given that the patch fixes something very annoying and penetrating that
disturb the user experience, I think it qualifies for SRU.

[Bug 354447] Re: [wishlist] gnome-terminal should support ctrl+= for zoom in

2009-07-11 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

This is a hardware specific issue , also not a usability issue faced by
the majority of the average users, Hence not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu
9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as invalid ONLY in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-07-11 Thread Sami Pesonen
I also made one mockup more with text under the buttons. This is because
it should follow the generic Gnome preference do you want to have text
under the buttons or not. I think the default buttons with text are ok.

I moved the Computer button to places (also can be found from Go menu in
case left panel is not used).

Combined the reload button with stop button. If loading something you
need to stop before you can refresh.

Removed Zoom and view drop down list, they can be found from view menu.
Removed one before button (those down arrow buttons), left one with same
functionality as in Firefox so can go back and forth from there if
needed.

Moved path next to buttons, nothing else on right side.

And Finally combined Places in the left with tree view.

I think these changes would not be too dramatic from end user point of
view but would give more space for actual information what you are
browsing, also it is easier to find files when you can use tree mode in
left. Power users can still disable text under buttons but also novice
users can understand for what purpose buttons are for.

Re: [Bug 345166] Re: Tomboy tries to load fuse module in Jaunty...and can't

2009-07-11 Thread markgalassi

Loic I'm not 100% convinced that this warrants a SRU and I heard
Loic that a 0.14.2 SRU might be prepared soonish, since I don't
Loic run tomboy myself I'll leave this alone for now.

I confess I don't know what an SRU is, but if you mean that you don't
think it's worth adding the fixed tomboy to 9.04 then I disagree.

The world moves toward net-based syncing of such information (see
foxmarks/xmarks), and sadly with GNOME we did not introduce an early
strategy for separating out to be saved/synced stuff. So the fact
that Tomboy allows such syncing should be encouraged.

LAZA, your description is not clear enough. You said you executed

it should be.

Regarding the unresponsive terminal: This is normal, since the command
has not exited (rhytmbox had to be closed for that). To be able to
execute further commands type LC_ALL=C rhythmbox . This will give you
the terminal back ;)

[Bug 398246] [NEW] Network browser only shows hostname, not share type / protocol

2009-07-11 Thread Brian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The network browser in Nautilus will adequately locate the available
shares on your local network. However, it displays each one with a
generic server on the network icon, along with the hostname that the
share resides on. This is problematic if a single host has multiple
services enabled.

In the screenshot I have uploaded, you can see my default Network view,
which shows 4 available shares, all located on the same host (sluice).
By double-clicking on each, I was able to determine that:

- the first sluice is SFTP
- the second sluice is also SFTP. Why is this shown twice?
- the third sluice is FTP
- the fourth SLUICE is SMB, although there are no actual shares available.

I consider this a moderate to severe usability annoyance that should be
corrected before the next release.

[Bug 398246] Re: Network browser only shows hostname, not share type / protocol

2009-07-11 Thread Brian
In case it wasn't clear from the original comment, the bug/annoyance I
am reporting is that unless you actually double-click on one of these
identically-named shares, you have no way of knowing HOW each share is
attached (sftp, ftp, smb, etc). And because different resources are
often made available over different protocols, this information is as
important as the hostname itself when the user is trying to locate data
(which is the whole point of connecting to the network).

[Bug 397954] Re: [karmic] gnome-power-manager crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_consolidate()

Thanks for working on debugging this. I believe this is a duplicate of
bug #397248. We've got it fixed upstream and am working on getting it
into Ubuntu quickly. If it persists after the fix is released in Ubuntu,
reset this bug to new and remove the duplicate.

[Bug 291840] Re: gphoto2 backend unable to mount MTP audio player

2009-07-11 Thread gnimsh
Sebastien,

I am currently experiencing this issue on my jaunty system. When I plug
in the MTP device, it automounts the mp3 player and adds 2 entries to
the disk mounter applet as well. Not sure where it adds 2 instead of
one, as only one shows up in the nautilus sidebar.

Once it is automounted a window opens up asking if I would like to open
the device with rhythmbox, however rhythmbox cannot see it because it
has been mounted by gphoto2.

So to reproduce it, I guess all that is needed is to plug the device in.

I'm a bit new to this so please let me know if you need any more info.
