Thanks for these new tests! Something seems weird to me: the commands I
asked you to run did not print the messages they should when creating an
user. Did you Ctrl+C before creating the user? Maybe I was not clear
enough: you should run these commands, and reproduce the procedure
without stopping

Im running Linux 2.6.28-15-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP i686 GNU/Linux on an Asus

I beg to differ. Though sure this is not a critical bug, it certainly is
one since it's well documented that new vts should be created
sequentially, vt7, vt8, etc...
Also before I came to the startx discovery I've found quite a few
complaints, some very old dating from hardy or 2005
This bug is partially fixed in karamic.
This is, now gnome power manager does recognize the disappearance/reappearance
of the battery
However if you boot without battery, gnome power manager will 'think' you don't
have one even if you add one.
You have to login/logout to work around this.

I did test the connection thru SSH and it worked successfully with the option
set to lo. Here is what I did:
1. Configure vino to only use localhost interface, as detailed in #15.
2. Connect from a host with public IP address (a.b.e.f) to vino server on
remote host (a.b.c.d).
I can confirm this bug and reliably reproduce it, after suffering from
it for a long time seemingly randomly without understanding what caused
it, and finally noticing a strange coincidence tonight (see below).
Also I can maybe tell why and how it happens by guesswork ...

The brightness toggles up (brighter) and down (dimmer) by what appears
to be one click of the Fn+F4 and Fn+5 keys. The flickering continues
through the GDM login screen and still exists after the desktop is
displayed. Using the Karmic Netbook Remix build from 2009-09-16, this
item still exists
I just got this one too. straight after startup.
