Today I installed the 10.4-beta1 64 bit on a test machine.
Steps to repoduce: install on computer with NVidia graphics card. Install
nvidia driver.
Select Preferences-Appearance-Visual Effects. Switch from None to Normal.
Compiz
gets started but the gnome-appearance-properties process
Turned out to be a bug in notify-osd after all. It's an edge-case in the
blur-cache-regeneration-prevention. Working on a branch fixing this here
lp:~macslow/notify-osd/fix-451086.

I disagree. We wont change this because hiding system groups would make
the groups dialog completely useless. Users have nice ways of tweaking
privileges, but those who go to the groups dialog must know what they
are doing.
