I've use ~/.gvfs mount point regularly in rsync scripts and _need_ this

* log out and log in again with gnome-panel (gnome classic), which worked fine

Yeah, I think that's the best approach. And it doesn't necessarily need
to look like a button, it could look like an indicator. This way we
would have even more consistency with the panel. All it would need is to

In Appearance Behaviour it would be in the same place as whether to
hide the launcher, so all launcher config would be in the same place.
On the other hand Displays is where the positioning of the displays is
setup and there is the picture showing the layout, so in that case it is
better there.

have purged then reinstalled *compiz*
then reconfigured nautilus and log out/in
reopenning nautilus on the next session, the greyed out menu item is gone and i
can copy/paste again.
So marking it as fixed.
