This probably isn't a kernel issue. Backlight drivers generally only
change the brightness when told to do so by userspace, although
sometimes system firmware plays a role as well.
But based on the described behavior, I suspect that it was userspace
setting the brightness value when the login

12.04 is near. The LIM Button can't be made until 12.04, but the global
menu for maximized windows only can. These features are evolving,
anyway. What if we have the global menu for maximized windows only in
12.04 and the LIM Button in 12.10?

the gui extraction unpacks only track 4 and the extra info files
using the unzip command line I see the files unpacked:
