[Bug 1174184] [NEW] Ethernet is not working when laptop is on battery power

2013-04-29 Thread vilbara
Public bug reported:

Ethernet network connection stopped to work when notebook is running on
battery power on my Lenovo T430s notebook after the upgrade from 12.10
to 13.04.

Ethernet network connection becomes available immediatelly when power
adapter is attached. Wireless network works fine with and without power
adapter attached.

Seems like other people are having this too:

[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2013-04-29 Thread David Henningsson
Ok, let's look again at this bug.

First, unfortunately bug 1169984 made it into the 13.04 release, which
hits many machines with HDMI audio. So any problems in 13.04 is likely
to be bug 1169984.

Second, there is a patch ALSA: hda - hdmi: Make jacks phantom, if
they're not detectable that hopefully fixes most of these errors.

What I recommend at this point (to get the above fix without getting bug
1169984 ) is to install the latest HDA driver and reboot (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS ).

If this helps, you're likely being helped by the next proposed kernel in
13.04 too.

If this does not help, you can do the following:
 * Install the hda-jack-retask package from
https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/hda
 * Start the program (run hda-jack-retask in a terminal).
 * Select the HDMI codec in the topmost combobox. (If you have more than one,
and don't know which one is right, you might have to repeat the below steps for
all codecs.)
 * Select Advanced override
 * On the HDMI pin that does not show up, click override, then change Jack
detection from Present to Not present.
 * You can then either click Apply now and test this right away, or click
Install boot override and reboot to test.

Regardless of this is working or not, report back here and attach alsa-
info ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo ).

Thanks!

[Bug 864615] Re: Thumbnailers are missing in gconf

2013-04-29 Thread MestreLion
Shouldn't this import be the other way around? AFAIK, Gnome 3 uses
/usr/share/thumbnailers/*.thumbnailer files to implement external
handlers, NOT gsettings. The gconf2 was the Gnome 2 (ie, Natty and
before) way of registering external thumbnailers.

Public bug reported:

  Versionstabelle:

I made a an upgrade von Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. The upgrade process
showed me no errors.

Now it happens that Empathy crashes sometimes directly after booting.
If it stays alive it doesn't show me any contacts but I can reseave messages
and answer to them.

What I tried with no or no permanent effect :
 - apt-get remove empathy --purge apt-get install empathy -y
 - service lightdm restart

[Bug 1174211] [NEW] Mouse settings are missing for wireless mice in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread Lisa Schmidt
Public bug reported:

When I have a wireless mouse attached, the mouse settings (Pointer
Speed) do not show up in the Mouse Touchpad settings, only those
for Touchpad. Only when I have a corded mouse attached, the Pointer
Speed setting shows up. Furthermore, the Acceleration setting is
always completely missing, for both the Touchpad and the Mouse setting.
I tested this with different mice, corded and cordless. The Pointer
Speed setting for wireless mice is always missing. I also tested this
with a Live system and the problem is there as well.

[Bug 1067876] Re: Missing Safely Remove Drive option from Quicklists. Only have Eject.

2013-04-29 Thread Norbert
Hello, Sebastien!

I’ll summarize my posts here.

My main linux distro is Ubuntu 12.04 and I think that Ubuntu is the best
distro and will fix the bug #1 soon :)

In Ubuntu 12.04, Gentoo stable, Debian 6 and Debian 7 safely remove
works for both USB-flash and USB-HDD.

In Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 (even with Gnome 3.8 from ppa); OpenSuse 12.3
and Tumbleweed; Fedora 18 and 19; Sabayon 11 safely remove does not
exist or does not work as before.

I did some tests at my free time for Ubuntu and linux community. It
seems that this bug is not Ubuntu-oriented, it is distro-wide.

We have 94 users affected by this bug here (they does not make as much
buzz as me) and some in other bug-trackers.

I tested 4 USB-flashes and 1 USB-HDD on different PCs and distros (see my table
at Google Docs for product names and USB VIDs and PIDs -
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dEtqbmhOVnJuVmRmOEx1QXpMSncwbEE#gid=0
 ).

1. USB flashes
I understand that removing unmounted (and synced) flash is quite safely
operation. But in 12.04 (and other distros) flash led switched off after Safely
remove. For me it is more comfortable to remove flash which LED is switched off.

In Ubuntu 13.04 I see Safely remove entry for only one my USB flash
(Kingston DataTraveller G2 16 GB), and it works as expected (after
pressing Safely remove LED on flash switched off, flash is removed from
lsusb, fdisk -l and gnome-disks).

For 3 other flashes I see only Eject option. After pressing Eject LED on
flash is switced on, flash is removed from fdisk -l, but still exists in
lsusb and gnome-disks). After Eject I can not switch USB-flash manually
(by udisks --detach).

2. USB HDDs
In Ubuntu 13.04 there is no way to spin down USB-HDD from GUI. I can spin down
HDD only from console with udisks --detach. There is a Safely remove option in
Nautilus window, but it does not spin down the drive. It removes drive from
lsusb, fdisk -l and gnome-disks, but plates are rotating. I understand that
SATA HDD are hot-swappable, but it’s not comfortable for me to remove rotating
hard-drive.

So I hope that convenient safely remove will be back in next releases of
major distros and Ubuntu.

I prefer LTS versions of Ubuntu - I use 12.04, and safely remove works in it as
I expect.
If you does not believe my results - you can repeat these tests by yourself.

Re: [Bug 1067876] Re: Missing Safely Remove Drive option from Quicklists. Only have Eject.

2013-04-29 Thread Dražen Lučanin
And another issue from my point of view that Norbert forgot to mention -
when your external hard drive has several partitions (which I think is
quite common nowadays, with multi-TB sizes), there is no more an option to
remove the whole device with a single action. This used to be the safely
remove drive option.

Instead, one has to right-click - eject every partition on it (quite
cumbersome for my 4 partitions, especially since I have to discern them by
name from my internal HD partitions used for Windows).

[Bug 1174261] [NEW] Ubuntu Time Date applet should set GNOME 12/24-hour clock format

2013-04-29 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

In GNOME, the setting /org/gnome/desktop/interface/clock-format has
value 12h or 24h and determines whether GNOME applications such as
Nautilus display 12-hour or 24-hour time. In vanilla GNOME's control
center there's a Time Date applet which lets the user set this value.

In Ubuntu's control center, the 12/24-hour control in theTime Date
applet sets a different value, namely /com/canonical/indicator/datetime
/time-format. This setting determines how the clock appears in the
Unity panel, but has no effect on GNOME applications.

This leads to a poor and confusing user experience. The format in the
Unity panel may not match that in GNOME applications. The user has no
way to control the GNOME 12/24 hour setting through the Ubuntu control
center.

I think the best solution here is to eliminate
/com/canonical/indicator/datetime/time-format, to let the user configure
the underlying GNOME setting and to use that to decide how to display
the clock in Unity.

[Bug 916595] Re: Screen brightness increases by itself

2013-04-29 Thread Manaf Yusuf
[SOLVED workaround]

using function keys to decrease the brightness works temporarily but
once you open the birghtness lock settings or the screen dims then
moving the pointer increases to fullest.

It looks like the fuction key settings is not linked to the birghtness
lock settings when I decrease/increase the brightness the slider does
not move and stays constant.

The best way is to decrease brightness from the slider in the
brightness lock settings

see screenshot

[Bug 1174313] [NEW] Account creation window is empty

2013-04-29 Thread Paul Hoell
Public bug reported:

When i try to add my ICQ account to empathy, the window where i used to enter
the account details is empty, except for Abort and Done.
The details to this account should have been saved from a previous, working,
state but this is empty too. The same happens when i try to re-add the account.

I'm on 64bit 13.04 + proposed.

I attached a screenshot of the account creation window, sorry for the
german locale, but the bug should be apparent.

2013-04-29 Thread Adam Dingle
Do you mean Kubuntu, for example? Can those flavors run Unity?

If you want to keep /com/canonical/indicator/datetime/time-format for
such flavors, then you could have the Ubuntu gnome-control-center set
both /com/canonical/indicator/datetime/time-format and
/org/gnome/desktop/interface/clock-format in parallel. I think that
would probably work okay.

[Bug 1172573] Re: Nautilus 3.6 list view adjusts size of columns frequently

2013-04-29 Thread Marinus
I get the same on the ubuntu 13.04 64. It seem the problem is with the
Type column. You need need at least two different file types in the
folder to trigger the bug and hiding the Type column stops the annoying
behaviour. But I have seen the Modified column also resize at the
smallest provocation.

The Sort order also seems to play some roll, in folders that the
Modified column also resize the problem does not go away when hiding the
Type column until you change the sort order.

[Bug 1135995] Re: Update poppler to 0.22.1

2013-04-29 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Looks like all packages build fine:

- okular and inkscape had unrelated failures, fix branches are linked to this
bug;
- libreoffice compiles fine, but has some test failures, looks unrelated to
poppler, will leave that to Sweetshark.

Seb, will you sponsor the transition? Three branches are linked, for
other packages only a changelog entry is needed (can do branches if you
want).

[Bug 1174422] [NEW] Window does not keep dimensions when resizing a 2nd tab

2013-04-29 Thread Matthew Butler
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

Open a new terminal window (I used ctrl+alt+T)
On the new window, open a new tab (I used CTRL+SHIFT+T)
Resize the window while the 2nd tab is active.
Remove focus from window (I used alt+tab but clicking another window also
worked)

Result: Window resizes back to its default size.

Now repeat the steps, but before resizing the window switch to the
first/primary tab.

Any resizes on the primary/first tab will be maintained when window
loses focus.

[Bug 1174431] [NEW] FLAC playback stops in Rythmbox Totem Movie Player

2013-04-29 Thread Curtis Schroeder
Public bug reported:

I have ripped hundreds of CD tracks to the FLAC format using RubyRipper
and Rythmbox has been able to play them all, until now. The track
Fanatic from the recent Heart album by the same name ripped to the
FLAC format causes Rythmbox 2.96 (Ubuntu 12.04) to skip to the next
track after playing the first 11 sec. I re-ripped the track, but
encountered the same behavior. Totem Movie Player 3.0.1 has the same
problem. Gnome MPlayer 1.0.5 is able to play the entire track without
any problem and Lame 64bits 3.99.3 was able to create a MP3 file of the
entire FLAC file.

[Bug 1026254] Re: Open with on folders was removed, Ubuntu should consider patching back

2013-04-29 Thread Milton
I agree that this a very unpleasant change. I tried the patch, but I
can't build the nautilus source (in the make, I get fatal error:
zeitgeist.h: No such file or directory, even if I have the zeitgeist
package installed**).

Is there any other way?

** Reply to comment #13: In order to install a patch, you have to
1) Copy the patch file to a new folder
2) In that folder, do a sudo apt-get source PACKAGE_NAME
3) Copy the patch file into the new package folder in that dir
4) type patch -p1 patch_file_name
5) sudo make (maybe you'll need to do a sudo . /configure first). Here you'll
have to install all the dependencies that the package need to be build.
6) make install

[Bug 1174471] [NEW] random gedit crash

2013-04-29 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

I was just typing, editing a file (with a few other opened in other tabs).
Suddenly Gedit started consuming a lot of cpu and after a few seconds it
crashed.

Upon restart, it didn't even give me an option to restore the unsaved
file from a backup, which is the worst thing. Doesn't gedit
automatically save a hidden backup every very few seconds as ALL decent
text editing programs do, from vim to LibreOffice?? that's unbelievable.
If it does, then it forgot to ask me whether I wanted to restore it.

I lost all the unsaved changes.

Hope this report gets the relevant files attached.

[Bug 1174529] [NEW] Nautilus searches All Files when it should search Home

2013-04-29 Thread Colin Law
Public bug reported:

To replicate, on Raring

Open Nautilus on the users Home folder.
Click in the right hand pane
Type, for example, the word down
Nautilus shows the results of searching for 'down' in All Files even though
Home is selected to the right of the search window. It should only show
matching files in the current folder. Clicking on All Files and Home refreshes
the view but still all matching files are shown.

I believe that this is a regression introduced recently as I have been
using Raring Alpha for some time and I have not noticed the problem
previously.

[Bug 1157246] Re: Cannot find libpython2.7.so.1.0

2013-04-29 Thread Pedro Nariyoshi
Hi Jeremy,

I'm having a similar issue runing Nautilus with RabbitCVS (nautilus
extension for SVN and other CVS).

I'm attaching the bug. I can confirm using symbolic links solved my
problem.

[Bug 964440] Re: Icons leave a trail of shadows with compositing effects enabled

2013-04-29 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
This is still present in raring :-(.
That's two releases of Ubuntu that did not even try to address this ugly
problem. It leaves a bad impression on users, especially those coming here from
alternative OSes, (where they got used to have graphics just work).
(Did you see this stupid -- whatsitcalled? -- You Buntu? It leaves black
traces on the desktop when I move an icon *lol*!)

[Bug 1064140] Re: Authenticated printing on remote servers broken

2013-04-29 Thread Matthias Schiffer
A backport would be highly appreciated. We'll stick to Precise till the
next LTS, and compiling a patched Gtk2 ourselves on each update (which
luckily hasn't happened for some time) is a hassle we could rather well
live without ;)

[Bug 1153934] Re: Some radio streams which used to play OK don't play after updating to rhythmbox 2.98

2013-04-29 Thread David M
Not that it needs more confirming, but yeah, the killing of gvfsd-http
worked for me, too. If it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself then I'd be happy
to attempt a fix it if a maintainer or other expert in the source code
can give me pointers to get started. I was recently hacking the
Rhythmbox source, so it's still fresh in my head.
