[Bug 1174184] [NEW] Ethernet is not working when laptop is on battery power
Public bug reported: Ethernet network connection stopped to work when notebook is running on battery power on my Lenovo T430s notebook after the upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04. Ethernet network connection becomes available immediatelly when power adapter is attached. Wireless network works fine with and without power adapter attached. [Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings
Ok, let's look again at this bug. First, unfortunately bug 1169984 made it into the 13.04 release, which hits many machines with HDMI audio. So any problems in 13.04 is likely to be bug 1169984. Second, there is a patch ALSA: hda - hdmi: Make jacks phantom, if they're not detectable that hopefully fixes most of these errors. What I recommend at this point (to get the above fix without getting bug 1169984 ) is to install the latest HDA driver and reboot ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS ). If this helps, you're likely being helped by the next proposed kernel in 13.04 too. If this does not help, you can do the following: * Install the hda-jack-retask package from https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/hda * Start the program (run hda-jack-retask in a terminal). * Select the HDMI codec in the topmost combobox. (If you have more than one, and don't know which one is right, you might have to repeat the below steps for all codecs.) * Select Advanced override * On the HDMI pin that does not show up, click override, then change Jack detection from Present to Not present. * You can then either click Apply now and test this right away, or click Install boot override and reboot to test. Regardless of this is working or not, report back here and attach alsa- info ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo ). [Bug 1067876] Re: Missing Safely Remove Drive option from Quicklists. Only have Eject.
Hello, Sebastien! I’ll summarize my posts here. My main linux distro is Ubuntu 12.04 and I think that Ubuntu is the best distro and will fix the bug #1 soon :) In Ubuntu 12.04, Gentoo stable, Debian 6 and Debian 7 safely remove works for both USB-flash and USB-HDD. In Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 (even with Gnome 3.8 from ppa); OpenSuse 12.3 and Tumbleweed; Fedora 18 and 19; Sabayon 11 safely remove does not exist or does not work as before. I did some tests at my free time for Ubuntu and linux community. It seems that this bug is not Ubuntu-oriented, it is distro-wide. We have 94 users affected by this bug here (they does not make as much buzz as me) and some in other bug-trackers. I tested 4 USB-flashes and 1 USB-HDD on different PCs and distros (see my table at Google Docs for product names and USB VIDs and PIDs - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dEtqbmhOVnJuVmRmOEx1QXpMSncwbEE#gid=0 ). 1. USB flashes I understand that removing unmounted (and synced) flash is quite safely operation. But in 12.04 (and other distros) flash led switched off after Safely remove. For me it is more comfortable to remove flash which LED is switched off. In Ubuntu 13.04 I see Safely remove entry for only one my USB flash (Kingston DataTraveller G2 16 GB), and it works as expected (after pressing Safely remove LED on flash switched off, flash is removed from lsusb, fdisk -l and gnome-disks). For 3 other flashes I see only Eject option. After pressing Eject LED on flash is switced on, flash is removed from fdisk -l, but still exists in lsusb and gnome-disks). After Eject I can not switch USB-flash manually (by udisks --detach). 2. USB HDDs In Ubuntu 13.04 there is no way to spin down USB-HDD from GUI. I can spin down HDD only from console with udisks --detach. There is a Safely remove option in Nautilus window, but it does not spin down the drive. It removes drive from lsusb, fdisk -l and gnome-disks, but plates are rotating. I understand that SATA HDD are hot-swappable, but it’s not comfortable for me to remove rotating hard-drive. So I hope that convenient safely remove will be back in next releases of major distros and Ubuntu. I prefer LTS versions of Ubuntu - I use 12.04, and safely remove works in it as I expect. Re: [Bug 1067876] Re: Missing Safely Remove Drive option from Quicklists. Only have Eject.
And another issue from my point of view that Norbert forgot to mention - when your external hard drive has several partitions (which I think is quite common nowadays, with multi-TB sizes), there is no more an option to remove the whole device with a single action. This used to be the safely remove drive option. Instead, one has to right-click - eject every partition on it (quite cumbersome for my 4 partitions, especially since I have to discern them by name from my internal HD partitions used for Windows). [Bug 1174261] [NEW] Ubuntu Time Date applet should set GNOME 12/24-hour clock format
Public bug reported: In GNOME, the setting /org/gnome/desktop/interface/clock-format has value 12h or 24h and determines whether GNOME applications such as Nautilus display 12-hour or 24-hour time. In vanilla GNOME's control center there's a Time Date applet which lets the user set this value. In Ubuntu's control center, the 12/24-hour control in theTime Date applet sets a different value, namely /com/canonical/indicator/datetime /time-format. This setting determines how the clock appears in the Unity panel, but has no effect on GNOME applications. This leads to a poor and confusing user experience. The format in the Unity panel may not match that in GNOME applications. The user has no way to control the GNOME 12/24 hour setting through the Ubuntu control center. I think the best solution here is to eliminate /com/canonical/indicator/datetime/time-format, to let the user configure the underlying GNOME setting and to use that to decide how to display the clock in Unity. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1174261 Title: Ubuntu Time Date applet should set GNOME 12/24-hour clock format To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1174261/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I get the same on the ubuntu 13.04 64. It seem the problem is with the Type column. [Bug 1026254] Re: Open with on folders was removed, Ubuntu should consider patching back
I agree that this a very unpleasant change. I tried the patch, but I can't build the nautilus source (in the make, I get fatal error: zeitgeist.h: No such file or directory, even if I have the zeitgeist package installed**). Is there any other way? ** Reply to comment #13: In order to install a patch, you have to 1) Copy the patch file to a new folder 2) In that folder, do a sudo apt-get source PACKAGE_NAME 3) Copy the patch file into the new package folder in that dir 4) type patch -p1 patch_file_name 5) sudo make (maybe you'll need to do a sudo . /configure first). Here you'll have to install all the dependencies that the package need to be build. 6) make install -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026254 Title: Open with on folders was removed, Ubuntu should consider patching back To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1026254/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1174471] [NEW] random gedit crash
Public bug reported: I was just typing, editing a file (with a few other opened in other tabs). Suddenly Gedit started consuming a lot of cpu and after a few seconds it crashed. Upon restart, it didn't even give me an option to restore the unsaved file from a backup, which is the worst thing. Doesn't gedit automatically save a hidden backup every very few seconds as ALL decent text editing programs do, from vim to LibreOffice?? that's unbelievable. If it does, then it forgot to ask me whether I wanted to restore it. I lost all the unsaved changes. Hope this report gets the relevant files attached. [Bug 1174529] [NEW] Nautilus searches All Files when it should search Home
Public bug reported: To replicate, on Raring Open Nautilus on the users Home folder. Click in the right hand pane Type, for example, the word down Nautilus shows the results of searching for 'down' in All Files even though Home is selected to the right of the search window.
