I think the bug is in one of the underlying libraries, not Evince itself
- when I enabled "Proposed" it updated a few GNOME libraries but I don't
recall a change in Evince itself.

I just noticed this. 16.04, GNOME desktop. I can't remember when the
last time I did a successful search in Evince was but it's something I
do regularly. Maybe two or three days at most since it last worked.

The pages that I leave by scrolling on a new page quickly disappear. When I
scroll up again it takes too much time to see them appear again. Although the
program should be intelligent enough to know that it's just a matter of time
that I like to switch to the linked pages.

In Kubuntu 16.04, xdg-open is a bash script that determines your desktop
environment (starting with the value of $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP) and calls
the file opener for that desktop. For XFCE that appears to be exo-open.
So run exo-open in debug mode to see what's going on.

snaps I looked at to check haven't yet updated to the 16-series way of
doing it.

Just updated Aquaris E5 to OTA-11 (using settings app, no flashing), and
noticed that slider to enable GPS device is missing. I am not sure if it
was designed so, but GPS does seems like not working. Location service
