This is still an issue in 16.04. Is it a regression? I'm pretty sure many
releases ago Nautilus was able to show shared machines in LAN, allowing to
quickly browse through them.
The only option at the minute is to Connect To Server and type in addresses
manually

Hi all,
It is six years later and this exact problem is back with Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial
Xerus.
I unblacklisted pcspkr and loaded the module, plus the overwhelming multitude
of other steps.
The "beep" command works and "echo blahblah | wall" also works, "but
echo -e '\a'" and "printf '\a'" do
The Archive Manager GUI does not seem to handle some files that it
possibly should. It seems that for some files it is necessary to
instead install unrar and then uncompress these files from the command
line with `uunrar x `
