1st. login fails to create a complete $HOME directory in a ubuntu-

Sounds like this is related to VT switching. GDM is in VT1 and the login
is on VT2.
While I can't reproduce the bug right now, I can kind of see how it could
happen: After switching between a bunch of VTs, eventually VT1 starts showing
two screens when I switch to it by Ctrl+Alt+F1:

I have no resolution until I manually add a `nameserver 8.8.8.8` to
`/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf`.
And if `resolvconf` is not installed, I don't know how to add a
nameserver. So I keep that installed.
I'm using Network Manager and it should take care of adding nameservers.
So the top icons plus won't work anymore? What's the alternative?
