I've found that the cache folder for gnome-software (and therefore the
gnome software flatpak plugin) has changed from 17.10 to 18.04 - so it

can't be used so it's sort of an important hardware enablement type of
feature.

I'll dupe this to the other slowness bug, it's probably the same thing.
What I found out before ali1234 came up with his analysis is that gsd-
xsettings is taking a really long time to start up. If you get

bottom of the problem.
Can you reproduce this again? If so, it would be really useful if you
could run the daemon under debug (or possibly valgrind) to figure
Gnome-shell will freeze at unexpected times when using the firefox
browser. The symptoms are the same as when watching videos with totem.
I've switched to chrome without having gnome-shell freeze on me.

Just tested some other languages: exactly the same error happens when I
select Deutsch, Francais, Espanol or Italiano. They all present English
(US) as default preselected keyboard layout.

For the sake of completeness, I repeated the test with the latest daily
build of Xubuntu Bionic (timestamped: 2018-04-04 06:05). Again: the
Xubuntu iso shows precisely the same results as with the Ubuntu iso.
This seems to rule out gnome-settings-daemon as culprit...
