[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride)

2018-07-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm going to say that patch is rejected. It will hurt more users than it
helps and this problem only occurs on rack server graphics chips (also
seen on Matrox ones too).

Please run 'lspci -k' and send us the output.

I get the feeling this might be an intentional feature. To check, please
report the problem to the Gnome developers here:

[Bug 1780169] [NEW] Orientation was disappeared when the machine has accelerometer in 18.04

2018-07-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When the machine has accelerometer, rotate the machine, the display
orientation can be changed in 18.04

If connect to an external monitor, can't change the orientation to
Portrait Right, Portrait Left ...etc. manually, because "Orientation"
was disappeared in Settings->Devices->Displays

This is not friendly to the user who need to change the orientation when
connect to an external monitor. (For example: need to review
documents/codes on external monitor with Portrait mode)

[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update

2018-07-04 Thread Brad
I believe I found a solution (or at least, a temporary workaround until
the potential bug is fixed). It seemed the bug was introduced in
4.15.0-24, as 4.15.0-23 works fine. I'm running an up-to-date 18.04
system on top of a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga.

I would get a blank screen with both GDM and LightDM until I started
switching virtual terminals or typing my login info, at which point, it
would just start up seemingly at random. I set systemd to boot to multi-
user instead of graphical, and ran 'startx' and experienced the exact
same delay. I took a look at the startx script source and I traced it
down to a call to /usr/bin/mcookie which generates a magic number to be
used with xauth. According to the BUGS section in the mcookie manpage,
it states that mcookie assumes that "none of the randomness sources will
block." Sure enough, doing an strace on mcookie shows it hangs at a call
to getrandom(), which I'm assuming (my knowledge is a little fuzzy here)
means that entropy is too low for getrandom() to generate a number.
Moving the mouse around, typing a few characters or switching virtual
terminals, to my knowledge, all generate some entropy so that finally
when there's enough, getrandom() returns a number to mcookie, thus
allowing xorg to start.

TL;DR: I installed 'haveged' from the repo, which, as far as I
understand, adds to the entropy on boot, allowing xorg to start without
any delay.

My next step is to take a look at the changelog between kernel releases
and see what I can come up with as a potential cause, but I figured I
would post what I've found so that others may benefit in the meantime.

[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update

2018-07-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I find it disturbing we still have parts of the system that will block
start-up waiting for entropy. That's not a good user experience.

But maybe that's not the same problem as njsf is experiencing...

njsf: Do you find an older kernel fixes the problem for you too? Try one
of these:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.14.53/

https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/14927311

You may also want to try:

  sudo apt install haveged

[Bug 1621203] Re: evolution/totem/gthumb crashes when run in vnc session

2018-07-04 Thread Ken Pratt
A similar error occurs when one attempts to run evolution on a remote X
Desktop. It seems there is a dependency on direct rendering which is not
available in either the VNC or remote X windows environments.

Recreate with:

# ssh -X servername [where the server is running Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop]
# evolution
libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
libEGL warning: DRI2: failed to authenticate

(evolution:25704): Gdk-ERROR **: 06:48:35.588: The program 'evolution' received
an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 207 error_code 1 request_code 153 (DRI2) minor_code 1)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is blur

2018-07-04 Thread Bin Li
In 18.04 we don't use the wayland, but in gdm3 we used xwayland for
login screen, could we disable it by default.

For the the Nvidia card, we didn't use the gdm-wayland-session, use the
gdm-x-session. It was handled by
debian/patches/ubuntu_nvidia_prime.patch.

Subject: Add hook to run prime-offload (as root) move Prime helpers into
the gdm-x-session wrapper.

[Bug 1780056] [NEW] pdf print issue

2018-07-04 Thread Bart Goeman
Public bug reported:

I have a several pdfs (all invoices from the same sender) that do not print
correctly from evince.
On screen it renders fine.
It seems a whole background layer (not sure if the pdf uses layers) is missing.

The print is wrong when I print to my printer (HP M426fdn, a laser
multifunctional on the local network), but also when I print-to-file
(pdf format) from evince

When I print to my printer using other means (FoxitReader or directly
with lpr) the output is correct.

I will attach the original pdf and the output from print-to-file pdf format.
E.g. the header at the top right is dropped by evince

Daniel, I know this, but syncpackage marks bugs as Fix Released and it's
manual work to go back and change it because nothing will do that for
you as the package migrates. I am, as I always do, tracking my upload
through proposed into the release.

If you want to do this manual work yourself, you can feel free of
course, but I personally don't think it's the best use of time.

[Bug 1773597] Re: USB flash drive won't mount

2018-07-04 Thread Roy Kimbrell
Inserted a regular USB memory stick after the most recent update and a reboot.
I always try this after an update in case something got fixed. The memory stick
appeared on the desktop 4 minutes and 20 seconds after I inserted it. Too long,
wouldn't you say?

I tried inserting my encrypted USB memory stick. Nothing happened after 7
minutes. Here's the dmesg stream:

[Bug 1774617] Re: Filter out snaps from GNOME Software

Fair, could this be provided as a graphical toggle just like how
different Ubuntu repositories can be enabled/disabled via a GUI?

@no, the "displayed version" from gnome-desktop is special and the only

[Bug 1762595] Re: Thunar incorrectly thinks USB storage device hasn't finished ejecting

2018-07-04 Thread Robie Basak
I'd like confirmation from another SRU team member before accepting
because of an edge case situation with versions that has arisen here.
Details: https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2018/07/04/%23ubuntu-devel.html
(latest logs not appeared yet but they will).

2018-07-04 Thread Rohit Pratap Singh
Maybe it's the hardware fault. Try reinstalling ubuntu see if it helps.
