I have tried to reproduce the behavior but I have not been able to.
The UI for keyboard shortcuts would not close. I had to kill gnome-
control-center (via htop) to close the UI.
A one time bug maybe?

Evolution is unstable unless the "evolution-indicator" package is
removed.
