On Bionic when I am prompted to enter my password via polkit I can type
a lot of characters in to the input field, above 24 characters the dots
hiding the actual characters overflows the input field.
I can reproduced this by:

It's not specific to rhythmbox, reassigning to gtk but it might be freetype or
something else in the stack. Could you add your journalctl log just after
seeing the issue?
What videocard/driver do you use? Do you get the problem at random time or
maybe sometime after suspend/resume for example?
Thanks for the update, it's weird if it got away without a real fix,

More infos. I installed the notebook from scratch with a 16.04.2 image
and update to latest 16.04 packages which installed 4.15.0-38 kernel.
The laptop has the correct behavior, without entering settings I can
switch/duplicate displays with the fn key.
