[Bug 1885665] [NEW] Can't open the submenus in the fcitx top bar menu

2020-06-29 Thread LittleWhole
Public bug reported:

After installing fcitx following the installation instructions from
https://fcitx-im.org/wiki/Install_(Ubuntu) ,configuring fcitx following
the configuration instructions from https://fcitx-
im.org/wiki/Configure_(Ubuntu) , and installing a few input methods,
fcitx was up and working perfectly fine. However, upon clicking the menu
shortcut in the top bar, when I tried to open the submenus, they didn't
open. Clicking the submenus don't open them, no matter how many times
you click them.

The release I am using: 20.04 LTS
The version of fcitx I am using: 1:4.2.9.7-3

Please open the 'Extensions' app (gnome-shell-extension-prefs) and check
that you only have the 3 default Ubuntu extensions active, at most. If
you have any others then please disable them, restart and retest.

[Bug 1885610] Re: enlarged components on lock/login screen

Does the problem still happen if you disable the user-theme extension?
You can disable it in the 'Extensions' app (gnome-shell-extension-
prefs).

[Bug 1885552] Re: gnome shell crashes if screen is locked

2020-06-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I suggest you start by removing these extensions as we find extensions
cause a lot of bugs:

'dash-to-pa...@jderose9.github.com',
'walkpa...@walkpaper.blinkbp.github.com', 'system-
moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com',
'appindicatorsupp...@rgcjonas.gmail.com', 'openweather-
extens...@jenslody.de', 'workspace-indicator@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'binance_ticker_moni...@jiraiya279.gmail.com', 'sto...@infinicode.de',
'dynamic-panel-transpare...@rockon999.github.io', 'panel-
o...@berend.de.schouwer.gmail.com'

If the problem still happens without extensions then please follow these
steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1885330] Re: System unresponsive to keyboard and mouse clicks when changing screen background

2020-06-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the mouse cursor still moves then that means Xorg is still running
and it was gnome-shell frozen. But we need to find out if it was just
frozen or the result of a crash. Please use this command:

  pidof gnome-shell

to check the process ID before and after the freeze and tell us if it
changes.

Also immediately after the next freeze please run:

  journalctl -b0 > post-freeze.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I know that this isn't a display issue, but when I try to send this bug
under the "other" category I get told that I need to specify PID and it

Whenever a application is left opened in the background for a while and
is not minimized, and I minimize the app that I am currently using, the
background apps become unresponsive until I minimize and unminimize them
from the task bar.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help with your problem in
the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/
or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org. For help
on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1885447] [NEW] Files do no recognize a Lets Encrypt SSH certificate

2020-06-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I tried to find any references for this question, but I could not find
anything close to the issue.

I have a WebDAV server using a Letsencrypt certificate. When I access it
through any browser (Chrome, Firefox), the certificate is valid an all
goes well. It also works from the default Mac OS file browser. Windows
is a no go, as it never worked from the get-go due to a "feature" on its
WebDAV client, and a non-issue for us.

However, when I try to use the default Files app from Ubuntu 16.04,
18.04, and 20.04 to connect to that server through the +Other Locations
option (Dave://domain.com/share), it says the certificate authority is
not known.

Is this done on purpose (I mean not including the Letencrypt CA by
default) Or just a mishappening somewhere?

Thanks,

[Bug 1885313] Re: evince crashes when opening rfc8798.pdf

2020-06-29 Thread Erik Auerswald
The problem may be related to how exactly an XML file is embedded inside the
RFC PDF documents.
See
https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/tools-discuss/12Efvwr7KXrgjVTWpaR4pa2hv-U
.

Removing the embedded file with 'pdftk rfc8798.pdf cat output
rfc8798-no_xml.pdf' results in a PDF that evince can display.

Re-adding the embedded XML file with 'pdftk rfc8798-no_xml.pdf
attach_file rfc8798.xml output rfc8798-pdftk-embed.pdf' again results in
a PDF that works fine with evince.

Thus it is not the fact that an XML file is embedded that results in the
evince crash, but rather the exact procedure used respective the
specific result of document processing as done when creating a PDF
rendering of an RFC for publication.

This still is a bug in evince, because evince is not supposed to perform
invalid memory accesses and crash. Especially since other PDF viewers
(e.g., Firefox) can display the PDF without visible problems (MuPDF
creates error and warning messages, but still displays the PDF
correctly).

SV: [Bug 1884396] Re: Ubuntu freezing intermittently when the mega.nz appindicator is loaded

2020-06-29 Thread Jofen Kihlström
Hello
I'd like to help out - that's how U do it in open source!
But Im not that technical - can you tell me how to investigate what the
problem might be because I don't know how to do it without instructions.

Im not a noob but nor a programmer - somewhere in between - so I can
do things in CLI if that is necessary.

Kind regards!

I'm thinking if this is a general problem with animated indicators then
bug 784055 might cover it. If however it's due to lots of logging then

If you don't care to investigate further then I understand, and this bug

Bug description:
I had similar issues when 20.04 was released, then it disappeared with
an upgrade - but sadly it's back. I have short intermittent freezings
of the OS. About every 15-30 seconds Ubunut freezes for a second or
two. Eg when writing this description, the OS freezes every second
word. When the freeze goes away the OS is snappy. I have tried
switching between Wayland and Xorg - but the problem persists. If I
write something when it freezes up the last
character will be replicated many times -
like what happened jut now. This
problem did not show up in ubuntu 18.04 through 19.10. Hope U can
fix this soon - using my laptop in unbearable.

[Bug 1884418] Re: Full text search does not work on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-06-29 Thread Adams Jensen
No, it is does not work.

to repeat the error, try creating a txt file in a folder where there are
already various other files of large and small sizes. For an example, I used my
git repository, I tried to find one of my functions. but there were no results.
Also, the word “great” could not be found, although a file with such a word
exists.

For some reason, searching for file contents only works in the home
folder. on 2 of my devices.

[Bug 1879968] Re: copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice on mutter 3.36.2

2020-06-29 Thread Adrian Jones
This bug is still happening .. it really does render this whole
package unworkable .. its equivalent to the computer not working at
all. At least that way you know your data isn't being corrupted. I'm
appalled at the cavalier attitude this bug is being treated...other
end itus ... I agree more and more it appears to be an OS issue yet it
appears when only using word .. as well as outside word.

Either way some heads need to get together and fix the bug. It used to
be when a critical bug like this was encountered then the part at fault
was removed.. the bug fixed offline and then tested back in. It seems
the modern approach is the old micorshaft approach of let the users test
and fix the bug. If its NOT this then the people here should be putting
pressure on those whose area it is ..reporting bugs is difficult
enough without constantly being shunted around saying its somewhere else
you report it .. (only to find you have to install software to prove
the bug was happening .. er.. it was happening before I had to install
mutter).

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Your bug report is more likely to get attention if it is made in
English, since this is the language understood by the majority of Ubuntu
developers. Additionally, please only mark a bug as "security" if it
shows evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries or to
directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any

[Bug 1884418] Re: Full text search does not work on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-06-29 Thread Adams Jensen
I just checked and found one pattern.

The search yields no results if you run it in a non-home directory

to repeat the error, try creating a txt file in a folder where there are
already various other files of large and small sizes. For an example, I used my
git repository, I tried to find one of my functions. but there were no results.
Also, the word “great” could not be found, although a file with such a word
exists.

[Bug 1885330] Re: System unresponsive to keyboard and mouse clicks when changing screen background

2020-06-29 Thread Lester Potter
In response to the last comment...
1. Run this command:

   gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

See attached

2. Open a Terminal window and run 'top'. Now reproduce the problem
again. While the problem is happening does 'top' report any process
using very high CPU?

All windows freeze. Only the cursor moves. "top" frozen.

3. Follow these instructions to check for crashes:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

/var/crash is empty
/var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id ... https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID reports
that "No errors have been reported from this system"
Applied work around for bug 994921 and got same results (no crash)

### Additional Information ###
1. In addition to becoming un-responsive, window also freeze ("top" stops
reporting while hung, Graphic applications like performance monitor also
hang/freeze).
2. The "Settings" app shows a preview, when launched, it shows the current
desktop. When selecting a different background, sometimes the preview will
update (but freezes before updating the desktop), and sometimes the preview
will not update.
3. After reboot, timing the hang, it takes about 16 minutes to become
responsive again. However, a second settings change took as little as 90
seconds. Not enough evaluation has been done to determine if other factors are
contributing to the timings (during the 90 second timing, I had tcpdump running
and I pinged the machine from another machine during the hang).
4. After reboot, running tcpdump during the hang, viewing with wireshark after
responsiveness returns, I find that there is some normal looking network
traffice, including connectivity checks outbound and normal responses received.
###

[Bug 1879968] Re: copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice on mutter 3.36.2

2020-06-29 Thread Ron Houk
I agree with the sentiment of others in recent posts. I reported the bug
upstream as well and there doesn't seem to be any interest there either.
I use Linux and home and at work and I need the clipboard to be working
properly. I work at a public library and have been planning on teaching
intro to computers classes using Ubuntu, but I don't want to try to
explain to beginners the concept of cut and paste while at the same time
explaining to them why the OS I'm teaching them on can properly do it.

My solution was to switch to Kubuntu 20.04. It seems to be working
fine. I think that's what I'll teach my classes on as well.

This is a false alarm, at least partly. If username is defined like
sftp://u...@some.server.org, everything works OK. It is likely that in
the live USB test case the server I use checks username from LDAP. As I
did not specify user name and the default "ubuntu" was used, connection
got denied. On another test server I did get the user/password window
even when I did not specify username as above.

Certainly most instances of GInotifyFileMonitor would be in the Desktop
Icons extension. Still annoying we can't get a stack trace.

2020-06-29 Thread themusicgod1
Now...maybe this is jumping the gun a little. But after disabling
desktop icons I just spent a bunch of time on mnemosyne (which was
triggering this)...and it didn't trigger. Maybe I lucked out and just
didn't trigger it...but it's awfully suspicious that it didn't trigger.

[Bug 1885529] Re: Gnome "Activities" button in inconsistent location

2020-06-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears that extension comes from the 'gnome-shell-extensions' source
package. So the correct locations to report bugs for it are where you
already did and at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-
extensions so I am moving this bug there...

Worth noting however that Ubuntu 19.10 is reaching end of life in July
(very soon). You should not expect any more updates or fixes. Please
install Ubuntu 20.04 instead. If you continue to experience the problem
in Ubuntu 20.04 then let us know.

Wayland doesn't work at all, hangs for 5+ minutes after login in VMware
(this reflects my experiences with Wayland on 18.04 and 18.10 in VMware,
don't think I've ever seen it work properly).

[Bug 1885529] [NEW] Gnome "Activities" button in inconsistent location

2020-06-29 Thread Matthew Davis
Public bug reported:

I have the Gnome "Places Status Indicator" extension installed.

Previously the 'Places' button would always appear to the right of
"Activities"

However since a few weeks ago, every now and then the "Places" button
appears to the left of the "Activities" button.

This is bad for two reasons:

* The desktop interface should be the same every time I log in. Being
inconsistent and unpredictable makes for a bad user experience
* I have hot corners enabled. With the "Places" button on the left, if I try to
click on "Places" but put my cursor too far up and left, the hot corner
activates, so it's as if I clicked the "Activities" button. It's quite hard to
click the Places button when it's on the left.

[Bug 1884754] Re: Fractional scaling does not persist across reboots in resizable VM windows

2020-06-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Before we ask you to report the issue upstream we need to check to see
if it's a downstream-only bug. Please:

1. Make sure Wayland fractional support is enabled:

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
framebuffer', 'x11-randr-fractional-scaling']"

(GUI support is coming - bug 1871864)

2. Log out.

3. Select 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login screen.

4. Does this bug still happen in a Wayland session?
