[Bug 31132] XKB errors cause gnome-settings-daemon to exit badly
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31132 Affects: control-center gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: If you configure multiple actions to the same key in System-Preferences-Keyboard / Layout Options, an incorrect XKB configuration will be generated. This causes a nasty loop where the settings daemon will load, send signals to all gnome applications to load a new theme, then die and they all reset to unthemed again. ie, all Gnome windows will appear to flash rapidly between your theme and the system default. Eventually Gnome notices and stops restarting gnome-settings-daemon, and you have no theme at all. Warning: No symbols defined for I7F (keycode 255) The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 1276 error_code 2 request_code 147 minor_code 9) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) [1139648893,000,xklavier.c:XklStartListen/] The backend does not require man [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Workaround: go back into Keyboard configuration and do not assign the same key to more than one action. [Bug 31134] Pressed taskbar buttons flashing
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31134 Affects: libwnck (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Even after the recent fixes in libwnck-2.13.90, the taskbar still starts flashing without reason. To reproduce: 1. Open an xmms window and make the playlist visible. 2. Drag the xmms window a few pixels aside. 3. The xmms button starts flashing. This is not an xmms bug but a libwnck bug, because a pressed taskbar button should _never_ flash: if the button is pressed, the program has already got my attention, so the flashing is useless. It is also puzzling because it is not clear how to stop a pressed taskbar button from flashing. libwnck should have ignored the flash request simply because the associated button was pressed. Proposed solution: all is needed is to do a simple check before starting a flash: if the taskbar button is pressed, do not start the flashing. Instead, libwnck seems to be using a much more complex logic where pressed buttons are allowed to flash (why?). -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31144] GNOME fails to start up for new user
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31144 Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I created a new user: $ sudo adduser tmp2 Then tried to run GNOME as that user. After entering the username and password at the GDM login screen, the whole screen went a kind of steel blue colour (not the traditional ubuntu brown) and stayed like that. No GNOME splash screen, no panels, no nothing. This is with a completely clean user account. I then tried adding the new user to all the groups that my own user is in (adm, audio, etc, etc), but it made no difference. The file ~tmp2/.xsession-errors contains the following: - (process:2767): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or setgid. This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper program instead. For further details, see: http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html Refusing to initialize GTK+. /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers -h -l :0 tmp2 /etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup... SESSION_MANAGER=local/chrislap:/tmp/.ICE-unix/2764 - but then, the same warning appears at the top on my own ~/.xsession- errors so it probably isn't relevant. [Bug 24242] gnome-nettool 1.4.1 segfaults when called from the commandline with wrong or incomplete arguments.
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/24242 Comment: I can confirm Michael Herrmann's post. On both my laptop (clean Breezy install) and my desktop (also Breezy), gnome-nettool always instantly segfaults, regardless whether it is called from the gnome menu or the command line. The latter yields: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ # gnome-nettool *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (out): 0x08297000 *** Abandon On both machines I have a running kernel module for a WLAN USB stick (ftp://ftp.avm.de/cardware/fritzwlanusb.stick/linux/suse.10.0/fwlanusb-suse10.0-0.09.00-beta.tar.gz) which is betaware and may well be the cause of the problem. [Bug 31037] Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31037 Comment: I use breezy, with recent updates (dist-upgrade). It happens once a week or so, but i can't find a pattern in the intervals. My pc is always turned on, (uptime is more dan 50 days) and i make several times per week a conncetion via vnc with my computer. I am unfamiliar with gdb. Do i need root (sudo) rights before executing gdb $(vino pid) ? When i now run gdb and typ thread apply all bt nothing is visible on the screen. Is there some output, and where? Or is thread apply all bt not something to typ. Or is there only output if something goes wrong? //Michiel -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 31178] HP990c not detected
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31178 Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: When adding a new printer my HP990c is not detected. It installs fine manually and via cups using localhost:631. It is detected fine on Breezy. Hoary and Warty and most other Distros. It was working fine until Flight 2. This is duplicatable starting gnome-cups-manager from the command line, but the standard path is: SystemAdministrationPrinting Click on new printer. It takes a long time for the New printer dialog to start in Dapper, much longer than Breezy. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 22551] Totem Mozilla Plugin
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/22551 Comment: I can confirm that mentioned video in the bug works with Dapper, using totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin, version 1.3.90-0ubuntu-1 (gstreamer-0.10). However, I can watch video only once, and I can't relaunch video with play button, as it is greyed out. I can't also call out Properties dialog, when I press right button and choose it from popup menu. However, I can get About dialog. Also I want to mention that now Firefox freezes when I try to watch quicktime.com trailers. I don't have no ffmpeg or other Quicktime codec installed, however, and I use gstreamer-0.10, so it could be problem with plugins. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31187] Totem Firefox Plugin problems in Drapper
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31187 Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: http://www.redhat.com/en_us/USA/rhel/informationcenter/videos/ I tried to test Firefox plugin and I can confirm that mentioned video works with Dapper, using totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin, version 1.3.90-0ubuntu-1 (gstreamer-0.10). [Bug 31195] fails to burn, complaining of insufficent disk space
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31195 Affects: serpentine (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I was thinking, great, serpetine knows about flac files, I don't have to convert them by hand, etc, etc. But at the burn disk stage it failed with an unhelpful message about needing 139MB of disk space for the cache. No hint as to where the space needed to be, and it really meant, as I figured out much later, that it needed 139 *more* MB of space. From sifting the code, it looks like the tmpdir's location was intended to be a preference, but there's nothing in the preferences dialog. Or maybe it was supposed to be set in the registry, but there's no entry that I can see in gconf's editor. So I conclude it's broken, though how it should be fixed is unclear. That it should be fixed seems certain. In the meantime I'll have to try to remember the cryptic options needed to use mkisofs and cdrecord do the job - at least they have man pages so I can look that up. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 28080] Volume controls don't work on Acer Aspire 5000

[Bug 31199] Revert should be called Reload from disk, and a new Revert implemented
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31199 Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: File-Revert does not actually revert the file. Revert means to return to a former condition, while what it actually does is reloading the file from disk. That file may have been changed by some other program, which is what I actually use the current Revert for - reloading after external change. However, that does not return it to a previous state, and it may be an unexpected result due to the wording. The warning says Changes made to the document in the last X minutes will be permanently lost. even if no changes has actually occured. A user that has made no changes may think that this is safe but become very surprised if the file has changed externally. If a Revert option is desired, then the application should make a note of the state at open time and update it at every save - maybe a pointer to a place in the undo history - that could be used to go back to this earlier state. If undo is limited, a file could be used temporarily for the session. Ideally, there would be both a proper Revert and the current functionality called Reload from disk. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
