Well it's not hidden really, the mail notification option is in the preferences dialog, under Mail Preferences, at the bottom of the page. But never mind, I have eventually given up on Evolution and switched to Sylpeed, so you can clise this bug if you like (to tidy up Malone a bit ;-), as well
