[Bug 54024] WIN key SUPER_L should be mapped to Applications menu

2006-07-25 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

Please reassign package if it's wrong

The current default is that the WIN key is not mapped to anything, that
makes it an ideal canditate for doing something helpful _and_ helping
those migrating from windows (The WIN key in windows open the start
menu, used for opening applications).

So, let's map it to the Applications menu (currently mapped to ALT+F1)

It will really be helpful for users migrating from Windows.

At the same time existing users should also be able to use Alt+F1.

[Bug 23445] Re: iMac G5 will freeze after booting up

2006-07-25 Thread Dennis de Vaal
1. This bug has been around for some months. Has never been fixed.
2. The newest kernel stable kernel as of this writing: 2.6.17.6 has correct
thermal support but no working sound. Upon boot dmesg says snd: unknown layout
0x53.

I am not running Ubuntu at all but i'm having these issues for months
and no fix had ever been applied to my knowledge. On the Ubuntu forums,
YellowDog forums, Fedora and Gentoo forums all people have the same
problems. I posted in different bugs on launcpad but some of them were
deleted? After months it's still not fixed how long will this take? Or
will this post sit here for months again with a single fix?

[Bug 52348] Re: nautilus stops copying files if it encounters 2 files that differ only by case and the target filesystem is case insensitive

2006-07-25 Thread Martijn van Iersel
I can confirm this bug with a floppy disk as copy target.

It's not always predictable which files get copied and which don't, but
the copy process is aborted halfway without warning to the user.

I think this bug can lead to data loss: e.g. you may be led to believe
you backed up a large number of files to your windows share, but in fact
not so.

[Bug 29966] Re: Gnome Cups Manager doesn't install Minolta printer

2006-07-25 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
The magicolor_2400W-m2400w.ppd contains *Manufacturer indication KONICA
MINOLTA, while gnome-cups-manager uses indication Minolta which is also used
by Foomatic.
Gnome-cups-manager will match KONICA MINOLTA to Minolta and look for you
printer model there, since it isn't there it matches the one that closely
resembles it, in your case magicolor 2430 DL.
Please note this is only a viewing problem in the Properties Driver tab of
gnome-cups-manager, this does not affect the functioning of the printer since
the PPD was installed correctly.
To prove this you could change the *Manufacturer indication to Minolta by
editing /usr/share/cups/model/magicolor_2400W-m2400w.ppd.
Then remove your printer in gnome-cups-manager and add it again and look in the
Properties Driver tab, you will see that the correct driver is indicated.

If I understand correctly you printer works except for the gnome-cups-manager
Test Page?
If this is the case please attach your /var/log/cups/error_log after you
pressed the Test Page button.

[Bug 53862] Re: Default gnome session keeps crashing on login

2006-07-25 Thread numerodix
Ok, I cracked it. I was getting nowhere and so I decided to reinstall
and then iteratively check if and where it would break. It turns out too
innocent looking lines in /etc/profile are what made gnome-session run
for the hills. I run gentoo on my laptop, I copied that file right over
and it broke the login sequence. Without further ado, here they are:

alias ls='ls --color -F'
alias .='cd ..'

The first one I've seen listed as a bug around here, so I commented that
one out, but it didn't solve it by itself. Eventually I found out the
second one also breaks it.

The question is why it breaks it and whether it should break it. I
certainly miss those two, among my most used, aliases. :(
