This bug is a tough one. I haven't been able to reproduce it. Also,
how is a tester going to be ready to capture a backtrace when a rare
bug such as this one appears? There should be a 'hotlist' of
packages for which testers should always have debugging symbols
installed.

Nautilus does not recognize empty
It could be that... Desktop in my home is a symlink to a directory on another
ext3 partition. This evening, when I go to home I'll try to create another user
with a local home, and I'll tell you if this happens.
Perhaps, it's a regression on dapper. I have the same configuration with dapper
I'd like us to just go with what we have and not change any of the
structure, just the URL.

Right, the current hal patch only fixes this for the LENOVO series,
since I had no other data from the bug trail. On the other hand, Adam
Conrad has an IBM T43 without hardware brightness buttons, and current
edgy works fine for him.

Right. So no hotkeys or function keys work when a menu or applet is down
and it is a design choice. I personally don't think that leaving it at
that is really the optimal solution.
I can't think of any of the hotkeys in question being used in the menus,

I think this has been fixed in the newer xserver-xorg-video-ati driver
that is included in edgy. At least not happening on my mobility radeon
9000 anymore, but someone should check if the issue(s) is fixes also
with r100 class hardware (eg. radeon 7500).

1) Get one of your virtual desktop completely clean by closing all windows on
it, so that the desktop appears.
2) Create a new folder on the desktop, name it blah. Or bloh.

!1 installed a new mouse theme.dragged onto the gnome themes dialog and the
system locked up entirely.
cpu was a clicken and the hard drive was reading data.
so i rebooted it.now,the ubunie gnome only goes sofare as the new
splash.nothing
