[Bug 67904] Rhythmbox crashes while playing (Edgy)

2006-10-24 Thread Marc Nieper-Wißkirchen
Public bug reported:

When manually starting Rhythmbox from the console afterwards, nothing
happens, i.e. the program hangs without showing any output.

pkill-ing rhythmbox doesn't help either.

Calling rhythmbox-client however does work.

[Bug 66034] Re: Cannot run gdmsetup

2006-10-24 Thread Adriano Varoli Piazza
The problem here is Ubuntu devs are keen on starting GDM as soon as
possible, to give the user the illusion of a faster bootup (just like
Windows, I might add), while things keep loading in the background.
Evidently there's a balance to be struck and we got caught in the ugly
side of it.

It's a complicated thing to juggle all those initscripts and getting a
setup that'll work on most/all configs. It's quite possible further
optimizations can be made, but I'm not really sure what to touch
anymore. Moving GDM after all the S20 stuff was easy and (probably)
harmless, same with cupsys and foomatic/hplip (unless you do need cups
active _before_ gdm, of course), but what about DBUS? HAL? Who knows?
Not me, certainly.

It's a bit sad that it took me this time to get off my behind and find
this bug report, running Beta2 and RC1 as I was.

[Bug 66355] Re: gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22

2006-10-24 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Just on a sidenote: I got gpilotd working on 6.10. I deleted my config and
reentered everything. It worked for a few syncs, then started to kill my Z22
again or gpilot just hung itself up (had to kill it as it wouldn't react to
anything at all).
So it seems to be possible to sync, but I have no idea what causes the change
in behavior as I definitly didn't change anything in the config after syncing
successfully.

[Bug 67936] [network-admin] Crash when starting from menu.

2006-10-24 Thread KenSentMe
Public bug reported:

Network-admin crashes on startup in Edgy, when i start the program by
going to System|Admin|Network. It has worked before, but since today it
doesn't even start and immediately gives me a Bug Buddy Window.

When i run

sudo network-admin

or

gksudo network-admin

It works. But when i run it as a normal user, it crashes. This is what
bug buddy says then:

[Bug 67698] After dist-upgrade, default session changed

2006-10-24 Thread Malcolm Parsons
Public bug reported:

Before dist-upgrade my default session was GNOME.
After dist-upgrade my default session is XFCE.

The KDE, XFCE and GNOME sessions were installed before the dist-upgrade, and
are still installed afterwards.
The default session should not have changed.

I can't remember if I had manually set the x-session-manager alternative
before upgrading, it isn't set to manual now.

[Bug 67698] Re: After dist-upgrade, default session changed

2006-10-24 Thread Malcolm Parsons
gnome-session removes alternatives on upgrade.

gnome-session.prerm:
if [ $1 = remove ] || [ $1 = upgrade ]; then
  update-alternatives --remove x-session-manager /usr/bin/gnome-session
  update-alternatives --remove desktop-splash \
/usr/share/pixmaps/splash/gnome-splash.png
  update-alternatives --remove desktop-splash \
/usr/share/pixmaps/splash/gnome-debian-splash.png
fi
...

Other packages don't:
bash.prerm:
if [ $1 != upgrade ]; then
update-alternatives --remove builtins.7.gz \
...

Is it OK for me to add tasks to this bug for the other gnome packages
which do this?

[Bug 67929] [users-admin] usability bugs related to new users creation

2006-10-24 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

When a new user is created using users-admin, users can be switched from
the logout window for instance. This should be documented in users-admin
docs but this is not the main point of this bug. When users are
switched, people can get back either pressing ctrl+alt+F7 or whatever
(and that's context dependent), or selecting switch user again,
logging in, getting a warning about being already logged and *then*
inserting again their own password.

This is very poor usability, since new users won't find an easy way to
switch back and forth, nor they will know about user-switch applet.

My proposed fix is to add the fast-user-switch applet to the panel
whenever a new user is added, and maybe even tell the user that an user
switch button has been added to the panel. Is this possible/agreable?

Thanks for your bug. The user switching is not optimal. There is already
some bugs open about that. A specification should probably be written to
get that change. I'm marking the bug as rejected there is no really
interest to keep it open for an already known topic and the bug tracker

Thanks for your bug. That looks like a dbus issue. Do you still have the
issue after restarting dbus (/etc/init.d/dbus restart) by example?

As the error has only occured sporadically, I cannot tell at the moment.
However, I'll try to restart dbus, once the error occurs again.

By the way, another issue I had with Rhythmbox was that one couldn't import
music folders that were mount points of logical volumes. This was with the
Dapper-version. I haven't checked whether the problem occurs with the Edgy
version as well.

[Bug 67846] Re: applet hangs after 3-5 seaches

2006-10-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
what version of ubuntu do you use? Could you get a backtrace of the hang with
gdb?
When the applets hangs, you can run gdb -p $(pidof contact-lookup-applet)
from a command line and type thread apply all bt on the gdb prompt then to
get the backtrace

[Bug 67698] Re: prerm should not remove alternative on upgrade

2006-10-24 Thread Malcolm Parsons
It was manual.

12:15 seb128 removing the update case seems fine to me
12:15 seb128 I'll do that for edgy+1
12:15 pepsiman can I add tasks for galeon, etc
12:15 seb128 sure
12:15 pepsiman k, thx
12:15 seb128 rename the bug maybe
12:15 seb128 something like prerm should not remove alternative on update
12:16 seb128 thank *you* for working on that ;)

** Summary changed:

- After dist-upgrade, default session changed
+ prerm should not remove alternative on upgrade

** Description changed:

- Before dist-upgrade my default session was GNOME.
- After dist-upgrade my default session is XFCE.
-
- The KDE, XFCE and GNOME sessions were installed before the dist-upgrade, and
are still installed afterwards.
- The default session should not have changed.
-
- I can't remember if I had manually set the x-session-manager alternative
- before upgrading, it isn't set to manual now.
+ Manually set alternatives are reset on upgrade if the prerm removes the
+ alternative when $1 = upgrade

[Bug 67955] Wrong timezone in 2.8 (edgy)

2006-10-24 Thread Jonh Wendell
Public bug reported:

The timezone for Brazil (i don't know about other countries) is wrong.

America/Maceio, America/Sao_Paulo, for instance, should be UTC -3:00,
but in evolution they are UTC -2:00.

The system (linux and gnome) itself is right. That issue appears only in
evolution, which affects my tasks, by showing reminders in 1 hour in
advance.

Maybe this bug report is related to gnome bug
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361990

Before you ask, i'm not using daylight saving time.

[Bug 66141] Re: moved desktop icons are copied

2006-10-24 Thread Emilio Scalise
I'll explain the real situation, so you can understand what happened:
- /mnt/cont is the mountpoint of an ext3 partition
- / is another partition, /home/emi is in this partition.
- /home/emi/Desktop is a symlink to /mnt/cont/linux_home/Desktop
I had the bug with this situation. Then I moved /mnt/cont/linux_home/Desktop to
/tmp , I delete the symlink /home/emi/Desktop, I made a new
/mnt/cont/linux_home/Desktop, I moved the files present in /tmp/Desktop to
/mnt/cont/linux_home/Desktop, and I created again the symlink /home/emi/Desktop
pointing to /mnt/cont/linux_home/Desktop.
I have done all of this operations using the text console. Then i log on gnome,
and desktop icons had the correct behaviour on move.

I wish that you'll understand what I've done.

Bye!
