My problem is: since Win installation erase old MBR and I'd like to keep it

Thanks in advance

[Bug 71208] Rhythmbox hang during launch

2006-11-10 Thread patrick_g
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

There is something horribly broken in Rhythmbox (version 0.9.6 in edgy).
My computer is a laptop (Pentium M Dothan 1.86 GHz; 1 GB RAM; 80 GB 5400 rpm
Hard drive)

When i try to launch Rhythmbox the first time it hang.
No response at all and it keep a lot of CPU power and memory (see screenshot :
52 MB of memory and 92% for the CPU).

http://static.flickr.com/108/293663045_60a12d6a66_o.png

When i try to close the Rhythmbox window there is no response so i kill
the software (right clic on the taskbar and close). There is a pop up
window saying (in french) the window 'music player' did not respond
and i clic on the force quit button (see screenshot)

http://static.flickr.com/101/289211932_143fb1a9e2_o.png

Immediately afterwards i re-launch Rhythmbox and everything is ok ! (see
screenshot : 31.8 MB and 0% CPU).

http://static.flickr.com/103/293663046_73e79be25f_o.png

So now when i want to listen my music i know whow to deal with this
problem : 1) launch Rhythmbox 2) Kill Rhythmbox 3) Re-launch Rhythmbox.

[Bug 22876] Re: There is no way to control which sound device or mixer the keyboard shortcuts use

2006-11-10 Thread Jan Mynarik
Maybe there is a possible solution, mostly workaround but needs some
code to be written.

Situation: keyboard shortcuts control 'main' mixer, volume applet
controls both 'main' and 'PCM' together; to really change volume while
using headphones, you need to change 'PCM'.

Possible solution: keyboard shortcuts will remain changing only 'main'
but volume applet could see the change of volume (it already does
because it changes itself visually) and update 'PCM' (the other applet-
controlled mixer) accordingly.

What do you think?

[Bug 71229] Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions

2006-11-10 Thread terzag
Public bug reported:

I use the Gnome Remote Server applet to manage several web sites : I
mount the FTP server to my desktop so that I can browse it like a local
drive.

I'm not sure the applet is named Remote Server as I use Ubuntu in
French : in my language it is called Se connecter à un serveur
distant.

It worked flawlessly in Dapper Drake but has a big problem in Edgy Eft.
I'm not sur if it's a bug from Gnome 2.16 or its integration in Ubuntu.

The problem is simple : whenever I transfer files to a FTP server with
this applet, it adds write access rights to anyone. I.e. if I upload a
file that has a chmod of 644 (read for everyone / write for owner), it
is set to 666 server-side.

It is reproducible for every file I upload from Edgy (even using the
LiveCD, so it's not related to a modification of my installed system).
Files uploaded from the Dapper LiveCD keep their permissions.

This behaviour leads to another problem which I've been able to
reproduce only with one french web hosting provider and I'm not sure of
what is happening (because I don't have access to the server's logs) :
after a PHP file has been uploaded on this particular provider's server,
it seems to keep its permissions server-side but is inaccessible. After
the permissions are manually modified with another FTP client, the file
is accessible.

I don't know how/why this happens, but I can reproduce the behaviour
explained in the first part of the message.

[Bug 71228] No pause button

2006-11-10 Thread Juanjo Garcia-Ripoll
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

System: Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10, rhythmbox-0.9.6-0ubuntu4

Description:

When playing mp3 files in Rythmbox, the same button is used to play and
pause reproduction. However the icon of the button does not change when
moving from pause to play and it is confusing.

Steps to reproduce:

1 Open Rythmbox
2 Select an mp3 file
3 Press the play button, the file will begin to play, the button remains a
triangle
4 Press that same button, the file stops, the icon is still a triangle.

What should happen:

When reproducing the file, the play button should get a different
icon, ideally the two vertical bars which represent pause in most
multimedia devices.

[Bug 68950] Re: screensaver starts first time but not after

2006-11-10 Thread nyarla33
This behaviour is happening again to me: start the computer, do nothing but
wait, screensaver activates, wait and screen gets blank, move the mouse or
press a key, desktop comes back (OK so far - you can do some activities, I ran
Firefox but that's certainly not the cause) and:
- wait again, when the screensaver should activate again screen gets blank
instead.
OR
- press Ctrl-Alt-L: screensaver should activate again but screen gets blank
instead.

I use a CLEAN installation of Edgy on my computer (upgrade from Dapper
failed for me for some reasons so I did a clean installation).

Re: [Bug 22876] Re: There is no way to control which sound device or mixer the keyboard shortcuts use

2006-11-10 Thread Paul Stimpson
Hi,

Jan Mynarik [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Situation: keyboard shortcuts control 'main' mixer, volume applet
controls both 'main' and 'PCM' together; to really change volume while
using headphones, you need to change 'PCM'.
This would work in situations where the headphones are driven off thesame
soundcard as the main audio but it wouldn't solve the problem I have with my
USB Headset.

I have a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 which plugs into a USB port
and appears as a soundcard in its own right. Changing the main mixer PCM
and Master would only change the volume of the built-in sound device on
the computer (which I use for the ringing on my VOIP app) and not the
master channel on the Logitech USB Headset mixer which controls the
volume of the headphones. The headset has switches built into the cord
which tell the computer to change the headset volume or mute its mic.

From my point of view, the perfect solution would be one that spotted that the
buttons were on the same USB device as one of my soundcards then steered the
button data towards the correct mixer or that let me define a binding between
devices and mixers manually. I believe it's possible to use uDev to make sure
the same USB network card always gets the same interface name regardless of
which port it's connected to or the order it's plugged in. Could something
similar be done here?

Thanks,
Paul.

[Bug 71251] [Dapper] Unable to remove a network printer from the printer manager while its host can't be found

2006-11-10 Thread Ivailo Stoyanov
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Set up a remote CUPS printer relative to an up-to-date Dapper machine
(in my case I used RAW and a queue via IPP);

2) make the CUPS host inaccessible for the client (e.g. via
disconnecting it from the network, switching it off, etc.);

3) try to delete/remove the printer created under 1) from the gnome-
cups-manager (System - Administration - Printing).

Result: the printer cannot be deleted/removed.

This is especially annoying on a laptop where numerous network printers
have been added to gnome-cups-manager -- the corresponding entries
cannot be removed later, while the laptop is disconnected from the
networks.

BTW, is there a way to clean up the printers appearing in gnome-cups-
manager in such a situation?

[Bug 71254] unable to unlock screen; gnome-screensaver appears to hang

2006-11-10 Thread Micah Abbott
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 6.10 i386 on a Sun Java Workstation W1100z (AMD
Opteron 150 with nVidia Quadro FX 500) and have been unable to coax the
screensaver to allow me to unlock it.

After the screensaver has been activated, I can bring up the unlock
dialog as expected. However, when I try to enter input into the
password field or click any of the related buttons, I get no response.
My only recourse is to ctrl-alt-f1 to a console and kill the related
processes.

I am running with NIS enabled, however, the user I use to login to the
system is a local user.

Please let me know if I can provide further information.

[Bug 71253] Crash on fast clicking on rating in automatic playlist

2006-11-10 Thread A. Bram Neijt
Public bug reported:

Using a automatic playlist with only unrated (rating=0) songs, rhythmbox
will crash if you click on the songs rating quickly and repeatedly
(songs will be removed from the list if their rating goes up). This is
probably a race condition problem.

To reproduce the bug:
1) Make sure you have songs with zero rating (no stars)
2) Create an automatic playlist matching only zero rated songs (no stars).
3) Don't enable shuffle
4) Start clicking on the rating of the playing song and keep clicking until it
crashes (about 10 to 20 songs on my machine). Clicking will bring up the song
below it and remove the song from the list. If you click fast enough rythmbox
will crash.

Misc info:
rythmbox 0.9.6
gstreamer 0.10

[Bug 71257] Ornamental Card Style Please

2006-11-10 Thread Jonathan Dodson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I know this is not critical, but when I tried Edgy I noticed the card
style ornamental was not present anymore in AisleRiot. That card
style is a SVG amazing look for the game. Fedora Core 6 has it as does
Dapper. Can we put that back in in FeistyFawn? That would be bitchin,
else have it as a package you can install from main/universe if not in
the main install cd. Something like gnome-games-extras or whatever. I
am using Dapper now, so if this is available in Edgy I am not sure.

It really, at least for me, makes the game quite a bit easier on the

[Bug 71257] Re: Ornamental Card Style Please

2006-11-10 Thread Jonathan Dodson
Thats cool, I would suggest shipping with that style, it can't be huge,
but I can understand if you don't as the line has to be drawn on some
packages to make the whole Ubuntu base fit on a CD. I would also
suggest making ornamental the default for AisleRiot as well as that
graphical style seems superior to the others. I remember Mark saying
that the look and feel of the free desktop needs to be awesome, I think
ornamental is an superior style to any other I have seen.

Just a suggestion, I understand if it doesn't happen.

Thanks for your time.

[Bug 71298] Gparted in edgy version

2006-11-10 Thread Salvatore
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

Gparted in the Edgy version does not recognize the partition selected
like “/” fileSystem, this problem is introduced when the partition has
been already created previously. For being able to assign a partition as
“7” it must cancel and create of new the partition.

[Bug 70540] Failure to refresh window contents in Totem

2006-11-10 Thread Bjorn Paulson
Public bug reported:

After opening a .ogg sound file in Totem, open another application with
totem in the background (but not minimized.) When the sound file stops
playing, and the other application is minimized, the Totem window shows
only the visualization and a white box corresponding to the location of
the playlist, rather than the expected menus, playlist, controls, etc.

To reproduce:

1. Open a .ogg sound file in Totem (I have not tried any other sound
formats).

2. Open a program and place its window on top of Totem, while Totem is
not minimized. (Eg. Firefox, epiphany...)

3. When the sound file stops playing, move the other window in front of
the Totem window, and back so you can see Totem. Where the other window
passes, only the Totem background will show, rather than the tools,
menus, and text. (When clicked on, all the contents of the window will
be refreshed.)

System: Acer 3618AWLCi Laptop running Ubuntu 6.10.

2006-11-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. The tools is a desktop one and an user
configuration tool, not a system one. The feature request might make
sense for a new tool, it should be rather discussed upstream or on a
list than on a bug tracker though, I'm marking it as Rejected, we are
not likely to work on that feature any time soon

[Bug 71313] gnumeric, abiword fail to open remote file opened through sftp

2006-11-10 Thread GiuseppeVerde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnumeric

I have mapped my home directory on a server (via sftp://). I tried to
open a CSV file (actually, Tab Separated Values), but gnumeric opens
without the file.

Workaround: open the file from the File menu. It's just annoying. At
least the Apple people can stifle their laughter (still get too much
laughter from those Apple people).

[Bug 71316] thumbnailer crashes on Real Media file

2006-11-10 Thread pgsa
Public bug reported:

**Information**
This system is a dapper dist-upgrade to efty.
It has some non-free packages, files, repositories and firmware installed.
The filesystem being browsed was mounted using NTFS-3g.
I don't think any of the above is the culprit, as all other
operations/thumbnails work as expected.

**Reproducing**
1 - Use Nautilus
2 - Refresh current directory with a Real Media file.
3 - Wait for the file to be thumbnailed OR go to file properties
4 - Application crashes.

I'll attach the crash report.
