After reboot it seems that all changes I made in alacarte was applied to
the menu. So although the alacarte UI and the menu itself didn't display
any changes, they would appear after a reboot, and I could also use
alacarte properly after the reboot.

Now I'm back to square one again however, I can't edit anything. I'll
try to investigate this further and get back with an update later.

Seb - I'm attaching a new patch on this. It does the following things, I
hope:

1. Turns the links under Can't find the answer into two separate links, one
for free support and one for commercial support.
2. Removes about-ubuntu from the list of topics (we will still ship this
document, linked from the menu, but it doesn't appear in yelp because it
doesn't count as help.

I'll try and do a further patch later to update the Common Questions

Thanks for your report. I think what happend is: something went wrong
with moving the file and folders to the trash applet, it crashed and you
clicked 'no' when it tried to reload the applet.

Can you try to right-click on the panel and add the applet again? Does
that work for you? If so, can you try to reproduce the crash and try to
get a backtrace (from the bug-buddy dialog)?

[Bug 89168] Add some photo-grid-print capabilities

2007-03-02 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

This bug is linked to an older one I filed, ability to print several
images (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/80220).

If several selected images could be printed from a single print dialog,
it would be great to have some dialog options like the ones photo-grid-
print offers (http://code.google.com/p/photo-grid-print/), this is,
number of rows and columns on a page, and the ability to repeat a single
photo to fill the page, which would be extra-useful for tasks such as
printing I.D. Pictures.

Please see how photo-grid-print handles these options in the following
screenshot:

[Bug 57731] Re: Futex hang when exiting using the window close button

2007-03-02 Thread Rogers Veber
Hi,
I am experiencing same trouble on a self made program.
I made a tool used to unfreeze process (and watch periodically) : survfutex
I send you the source in attachment. You can try it on the frozen process to
check that it works (normaly it would). It is using the ptrace(2) syscall to
attach the frozen proc (use -p pid as argument), to get the syscall number
(check it is sys_futex), to get the address of WAIT, and poke a 0 at it. If you
add -s millisec option survfutex will check periodically.
That is for the reparing ... Now, there are informations I collected that could
help preventing.
On my program (the one that sometime freezes), the trouble occurs within a
signal handler of SIGCLD (death of child process). In this handler, I call a
wait(2), log the death using fprintf(3) and then free(3) a struct (element of a
list of running son).
I have two technics to prevent the freeze :
First one:
  - I block the SIGCLD (using sigprocmask(2)),
  - periodically check if there is a pending SIGCLD,
  - if so manage the death ouside a signal handler and remove the pending
condition.
Second one:
 - the signal handler call the wait(2), then move the struct of son from a list
of alive sons
  to a list of dead sons.
 - Outside of the signal handler, manage the death of the son (fprintf and
free).
The survfutex can be compiled with cc survfutex.c -o survfutex
One must use the -u option to unblock a frozen process.
Please, let me know if it work with your trouble and feel free to communicate
the survfutex.c and informations to anyone that encounter the same trouble.

Cheers
-Rogers

[Bug 88015] Re: shutdown window freezes everytime

2007-03-02 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
It doesn't happen with network-manager uninstalled! How did you know?!

window freeze: when I click any button (including cancel!), the button
remains pressed, the window remains visible, and the (darkened) desktop
too. The mouse cursor still moves, but clicks don't do anything.

If I switch to a console and come back to X, sometimes the background
(darkened desktop with icons, etc.) is visible, sometimes it's just
black (which is by desktop color). The place where the shutdown dialog
was is rendered just as a white rectangle.

I tried waiting at least a quarter of an hour with no change.
Ctrl+alt+backspace goes back to the login window quite quickly, though.
When I login again I usually get some warnings about application
crashes, but not consistently.

Evolution shows up with most field identifiers in English although my locale is
'de_DE.UTF-8'. Exceptions are:
i.) in the lower left the buttons labelled 'E-Mail', 'Kontakte', 'Aufgaben',

ii.) in 'Kontakte' 'Auf diesem Computer', 'Persönlich', 'Auf LDAP-Servern'.
iii.) the names of the months in the small monthly calender proper.
iv.) Menu 'Edit' 'Preferences' opens the window 'Evolution preferences'. In
this window the left-hand identifiers are fully German and the right-hand
identifiers partially. Their own menus (if they exist) are all English.

[Bug 89209] nautilus modifies .desktop files when viewing properties

2007-03-02 Thread Christof Krüger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Create a .desktop file with the contents:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Ubuntu
Type=Link
URL=http://www.ubuntu.com

Now start nautilus, right-click the file, select properties. Click on
the Link tab. At this instant the files has been modified without
actually changing the fields. The contents are now:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Ubuntu
Type=Link
URL=http://www.ubuntu.com
GenericName[en_US]=

A file manager should *never* change a file without user consent.

[Bug 78756] Re: photo import does not work any more

2007-03-02 Thread Jan Mynarik
Found it! ;-)

pkg-config checks libgphoto2 that needs libgphoto2_port (both provided
by libgphoto2-dev package). libgphoto2-port0 binary package depends on
libusb-0.1-4 binary package but libgphoto2-dev DOESN'T depend on libusb-
dev. pkg-config check of libgphoto2_port.pc fails because it can't find
libusb.pc.

So it is a problem in libgphoto2-dev package not depending on libusb-
dev, I think. If someone confirms this, please open a bug in libgphoto2
package.

Thank you for your bug. Do you use totem-gstreamer or totem-xine? What
architecture do you use? That file doesn't crash nautilus on my i386
feisty desktop. Could you get a backtrace
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash) for the crash?

2007-03-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
That bug is not easy to fix because we lack informations on it, it
happens randomly to different people and not that often, would be nice
to get a valgrind log for it though. One way is to try running gnome-
panel with valgrind until catching something useful, you are welcome to
do it if you want otherwise that's no problem we will wait until
somebody gets informations about the bug

Thank you for your bug. That's not an evolution package bug, feisty has
just been opened on rosetta and there is no updated language-packs yet,
that's likely to be fixed when language pack are updated. If that's not
the case you can contact the translator team for your locale to update

[Bug 89219] Switching back to an user account needs no password

2007-03-02 Thread Manuel Hermann
Public bug reported:

You can switch back to a logged in user account without entering the
password, if the user logged of using switch user.

Reproducable on 6.10:
1. Log in to an user account using GDM
2. Log out via switch user
3. Back in GDM hit ctrlaltbackspace and you're in

This seems to work only once: You cannot switch the user, hit
ctrlaltbackspace, switch the user and hit the three keys again.
Then you are asked for the password. To work again you have to log out
and log in again.

[Bug 80798] Re: Confinguration of Network-based printer unclear

2007-03-02 Thread hggdh
If we can simplify the life of the casual user, I cannot see why not to
do it -- mostly if it is a question of activating an existing option.

Nevertheless, the wording should still change to something like HP Jet
Direct/Raw device.

Just saying HP Jet Direct confuses the hell out of someone that got a
Brother, Epson, or other printer/interface that runs on raw mode.
