[Bug 108818] Join/leave messages make chatrooms with many members almost unreadable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xchat-gnome When joinging a large Chat-Room (such as #ubuntu or #ubuntu-release- party) the discussion gets totally bogged down by the join leave messages. So if more than 1000 members are in a chatroom sometimes more than 7 of 10 messages are just join/leave which leaves much less room to the alreaddy fast moving ocnversation and makes it very difficult to follow it. Other irc-clients have a sort of conference mode for this, so that if a room contians more than N members, they stop showing the join/leave messages. I'd like that. :) Good numbers for N could be either 10, 30 or 60 members, though that could also be determined empirically, that is the number of members to a chatroom when the join / leave messages start to get more on the nerves than they are usefull. :) Martin ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Apr 22 09:22:48 2007 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/xchat-gnome Package: xchat-gnome 1:0.16-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcCmdline: xchat-gnome ProcCwd: /home/dwt ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xchat-gnome Uname: Linux dwts-laptop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: xchat-gnome (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Join/leave messages make chatrooms with many members almost unreadable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for xchat-gnome in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 99538] Re: Feisty usb stick Cannot eject volume
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63090 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/63090 I have had the same problem with my Western Digital 250GB External HDD. Although the solution that causes the device to Unmount rather than Eject lets you remove it without being root, the WD HDD does not 'click' when removed which indicates that it has been properly removed and the HDD has come to rest (whereas the unmounting option just stops it communicating with the PC rather than actually removing it). When I run eject sdc1 I get the following back: umount: /media/My Book is not in the fstab (and you are not root) eject: unmount of `/media/My Book' failed However, if I run sudo eject sdc1 then the device is not only removed but 'clicks' indicating that it has been properly removed. For the moment I am just using the terminal to remove it, however you should not need to be root to remove a USB device, there's no reason. Right-clicking on the drive in Kubuntu Edgy 6.10 removed it properly (same as sudo eject sdc1 in Feisty), this was not a problem in Edgy. -- Feisty usb stick Cannot eject volume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99538 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber (via bug 63090). -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 47269] Re: Importing a CD into Rhythmbox appears not to work (doesn't add tracks to library)
(On Feisty) Even when you do configure Rhythmbox to monitor the library it doesn't seem to work 100%; there are two issues: 1) It doesn't always get the files - I had two files marked as couldn't find the mime type of the file, but on reimport it worked - I'm _guessing_ that it is picking it up as soon as the file is created but before all the data has been sucked into it - SoundJuicer should probably lock or extract its files into a temporary directory and then atomically move once completed (in which case rhythymbox may need a defined pattern to ignore) 2) A feature I think iTunes can manage on Mac is to start playing as it is extracting; Rhythmbox should have a facility to start playing sound files as they are created so that as you import a source you can start listening as it continues to be extracted. [Bug 107999] Re: File-roller won't open files(archives) on remote samba shares
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36498 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36498 After reading what I wrote I decided to leave it intact but to include something much shorter for the faint of heart: Exact steps leading to my problem - I used connect to server to get to the file share becouse it was not on the network list. Since then the share is accesible through bookmark. I set up the ip, username, path all as a windows share. It asked the password, then I could see files in nautilus shared on ip the window title. When I try to open any archive (default program for that be file-roller) I get an open file-roller window without anyting in it. Nothing opened. Just like pressing alt+f2 and running file-roller. Archives are not damaged, there aint any error messages, also archive cannot be oppened using the open dialog in file roller and typing the full file path inside (smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/folder/file.zip). --- the long ramble following --- Well I can perform most of the operations on the smb share. Can play music using rythmbox, movies too using totem (all gstreamer stuff seems to be working), can copy/delete/rename, whatever from file manager when permissions are right (on target fs, all of this logged with username and password). What won't work - opening any file using file-roller, similar easy-tag is a no-go, the same with mplayer. Just won't work. I dunno a lot about the inner workings of the samba support, but I remember that mplayer had to be compiled with smb support built in (on my previous linux distros) for this to work - to play files directly from the share. Seems like some programs just don't have this option to read files directly from smb share. And file-roller one of them, which is kinda lacking since its the default program for archive. Had lots of similar problems with lots of programs - programs willl either download the file to temp file before opening em or just refuse to budge like file roller. I can provide more info, definetely and I would gladly cooperate more if this can be resolved. It does seem quite critical to me though - home networking is popular and failure to open files from network shares can be daunting esp. if the archive is like 4 gig large and you don't have local disk space for the operation. I can try to enter the path in file-roller itself smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/shared/file.name.zip and nothing happens, the input box helped me to enter the path though, so the gnome itself is aware of the share. It even asked me for permission to access password storage. I seem so vague about this - I really have some terminology problems so please be graphical in descriptions, more familiar with command line than gui :D Command line is simple and this is compllicated... Hope it is of any help, though it makes no sense to me. Just ask for any further info I can provide coz I'd like to see this insect squashed. Particularly irritating was the fact that the logout menu option didn't do anything, so the user couldn't log out. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Couldn't open any new programs or log out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108761 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 108761] Re: Couldn't open any new programs or log out
I've noticed some more oddness today. When the screen is locked, and the Switch User button is pressed, nothing happens. When I go to Quit - Switch User, the mouse cursor goes into the 'busy/launching a program' animation. From then on, I can't open new programs, and if I select Quit again, nothing happens. I once got an error dialog saying that GDM couldn't be launched, but I didn't write down the exact message, and I haven't managed to trigger it again. ** Changed in: gdm (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = gdm -- Couldn't open any new programs or log out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'm having the same problem on a fresh install of Feisty. When I tried sudo ifup lo (like Shum), it reported that interface lo already configured. Pinging my localhost did not return any errors either. I have attached the requested information. Ignore the Microcode errors in dmesg, as I have been encountering them since Dapper and haven't had a chance to fix them (they don't seem to affect anything). In addition, when I try running gnome-settings-daemon, it returns this text: The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 1948 error_code 2 request_code 144 minor_code 29) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. [Bug 105142] Re: Evince does not honour CUPS printer setting
I can confirm this in 7.04. Evince (and gtk-demo, so this probably isn't really an evince bug) use settings from /etc/cups/lpoptions rather than the ones from ~/.cups/lpoptions. -- Evince does not honour CUPS printer setting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105142 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 109106] removing a background cause the selection to scroll all the way up
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When the user clicks remove to remove a background, the selection is moved all the way up. That makes wallpaper selection/refinement difficult when the user has a long list of wallpapers. The expected behavior for the removal procedure is the selection to go all the way up to No Wallpaper, while the list keeps on the same point is was, showing the wallpapers that were next to the removed one on the list. ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Confirmed -- removing a background cause the selection to scroll all the way up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109106 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
