[Bug 108806] All apps open in upper left corner of screen, no minimize button, can't reposition window.

2007-04-22 Thread reggaeg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I don't know exactly when it started, I just noticed that the terminal was
opening in the upper left corner and there was no way to reposition it.
The only fix is to log out and select the gnome failsafe option, then
re-login.

[Bug 108818] Join/leave messages make chatrooms with many members almost unreadable

2007-04-22 Thread Martin Häcker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When joinging a large Chat-Room (such as #ubuntu or #ubuntu-release-
party) the discussion gets totally bogged down by the join leave
messages.

So if more than 1000 members are in a chatroom sometimes more than 7 of
10 messages are just join/leave which leaves much less room to the
alreaddy fast moving ocnversation and makes it very difficult to follow
it.

Other irc-clients have a sort of conference mode for this, so that if a
room contians more than N members, they stop showing the join/leave
messages. I'd like that. :)

Good numbers for N could be either 10, 30 or 60 members, though that
could also be determined empirically, that is the number of members to a
chatroom when the join / leave messages start to get more on the nerves
than they are usefull.

2007-04-22 Thread b0ng0
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63090 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/63090

I have had the same problem with my Western Digital 250GB External HDD.
Although the solution that causes the device to Unmount rather than
Eject lets you remove it without being root, the WD HDD does not
'click' when removed which indicates that it has been properly removed
and the HDD has come to rest (whereas the unmounting option just stops
it communicating with the PC rather than actually removing it).

When I run eject sdc1 I get the following back:

umount: /media/My Book is not in the fstab (and you are not root)
eject: unmount of `/media/My Book' failed

However, if I run sudo eject sdc1 then the device is not only removed
but 'clicks' indicating that it has been properly removed. For the
moment I am just using the terminal to remove it, however you should not
need to be root to remove a USB device, there's no reason.

Right-clicking on the drive in Kubuntu Edgy 6.10 removed it properly
(same as sudo eject sdc1 in Feisty), this was not a problem in Edgy.

[Bug 107067] Ubuntu Feisty Installation - Improper rendering of Tamil Fonts

2007-04-22 Thread ம . ஸ்ரீ ராமதாஸ்
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

1) I tried installing Ubuntu Live CD - The Feisty Beta version. Chose
the Language of Installation to Tamil.

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/150685/large/1___2986___3008___3000___3021___2975___30072990___3009___2980___2993___30212986___2975___2990___3021_.png

Rendering of Tamil letters is not proper.

Given below is the similar situation in Kubuntu Edgy where the fonts are
rendered properly.

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/150685/large/1_Kubuntu_installation_0.png

From the solutions that came from our users this is because the dafault
font used is sans and not serif. Kindly fix this as early as
possible.

2007-04-22 Thread Chris Bozic
Yes, I'm still getting it too. Except I've noticed now that the
trash isn't always empty.

I have multiple partitions on my disk. If I delete something from my

anything from any other partition, my trash applet is empty and I have
a new hidden trash folder called .Trash-username at the top level of
whatever partition contained my deleted file.

in ~/.gnome or ~/.gnome2 i think there is a session file. rename it to
session.old and logout and login again.

without that file, the session defaults to the default session. since
you said that your failsafe session works then i think this will solve
your problem.

[Bug 47269] Re: Importing a CD into Rhythmbox appears not to work (doesn't add tracks to library)

2007-04-22 Thread Dave Gilbert
(On Feisty)
Even when you do configure Rhythmbox to monitor the library it doesn't seem to
work 100%; there are two issues:

   1) It doesn't always get the files - I had two files marked as couldn't find
the mime type of the file, but on reimport it worked - I'm _guessing_ that it
is picking it up as soon as the file is created but before all the data has
been sucked into it - SoundJuicer should probably lock or extract its files
into a temporary directory and then atomically move once completed (in which
case rhythymbox may need a defined pattern to ignore)
   2) A feature I think iTunes can manage on Mac is to start playing as it is
extracting; Rhythmbox should have a facility to start playing sound files as
they are created so that as you import a source you can start listening as it
continues to be extracted.

[Bug 108982] Rythmbox doesn't see daap shares

I have a fresh install of Feisty Fawn final. I have a daap share on

However, Rhythmbox 0.10.0 does not see the daap share. I can still use

[Bug 108951] Gnome drawer applet delays and unresponsiveness

2007-04-22 Thread Ari
Public bug reported:

The drawer applet in the panel behaves weirdly.

When first added to a panel (either the panel in the top of the screen
or the one in the bottom of the screen), everything looks good. But
after adding to the drawer a link to a simple text file (so that, when
clicked, gedit opens with this textfile), opening the drawer requires up
to three clicks in the applet (the applet wont open until the third
click). And even then, the drawer opens just a bit and then some three
seconds later it fully opens showing its contents.

I have a feisty fresh install. Exactly the same thing happened to me
with Edgy and Dapper before. Hopefully it can get fixed for the next
release :)

thanks

within the share) but songs are not playable. Rhythmbox just skips every
song. I believe this bug is reported elsewhere though.

[Bug 55045] Re: local DAAP shares not listed

2007-04-22 Thread beerfan
James Doc Livingston said on 2006-08-07:
Are the DAAP servers running on the same machine as Rhythmbox? Rhythmbox
doesn't display local DAAP shares.

Please allow browsing local DAAP shares. I host my music with mt-daapd
for all my machines but I'd still like to be able to play them from the
machine hosting them. The reason that I would access local music through
mt-daap is because all my smart playlists are set up there and not in
Rhythmbox.

[Bug 99538] Re: Feisty usb stick Cannot eject volume

2007-04-22 Thread Tim Cussins
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63090 ***

Same issue. External USB hard-disk fails to eject, but USB stick is
fine.

This could be a clue - I opened the properties dialogs for both of the
above devices, and looked at the Drive tab. The external hard-disk is
shown as Removable: No, whereas the USB stick shows Removable: Yes
(ejectable)

Any ideas on how to set the disk as ejectable? I'll have a dig around
this arvo.

[Bug 73031] Re: places sidebar has graphical error

2007-04-22 Thread Stefan Bethge
'nvidia' that is, but to me it doesn't look so much like a video driver bug.
Especially not since it doesn't happen if i drag a folder.
This even makes it probable that it is not in gtk but in nautilus itself.
Please try it some more times if the bug really does not occur on your machine.
I think it might not be trivial to reproduce it if you don't know when it
happens.

[Bug 107999] Re: File-roller won't open files(archives) on remote samba shares

2007-04-22 Thread Neikius
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36498 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36498

After reading what I wrote I decided to leave it intact but to include
something much shorter for the faint of heart:

Exact steps leading to my problem - I used connect to server to get to
the file share becouse it was not on the network list. Since then the
share is accesible through bookmark. I set up the ip, username, path all
as a windows share. It asked the password, then I could see files in
nautilus shared on ip the window title. When I try to open any archive
(default program for that be file-roller) I get an open file-roller
window without anyting in it. Nothing opened. Just like pressing alt+f2
and running file-roller. Archives are not damaged, there aint any
error messages, also archive cannot be oppened using the open dialog in
file roller and typing the full file path inside
(smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/folder/file.zip).

--- the long ramble following ---

Well I can perform most of the operations on the smb share. Can play
music using rythmbox, movies too using totem (all gstreamer stuff seems
to be working), can copy/delete/rename, whatever from file manager when
permissions are right (on target fs, all of this logged with username
and password). What won't work - opening any file using file-roller,
similar easy-tag is a no-go, the same with mplayer. Just won't work. I
dunno a lot about the inner workings of the samba support, but I
remember that mplayer had to be compiled with smb support built in (on
my previous linux distros) for this to work - to play files directly
from the share. Seems like some programs just don't have this option to
read files directly from smb share. And file-roller one of them, which
is kinda lacking since its the default program for archive. Had lots of
similar problems with lots of programs - programs willl either download
the file to temp file before opening em or just refuse to budge like
file roller.

I can provide more info, definetely and I would gladly cooperate more if
this can be resolved. It does seem quite critical to me though - home
networking is popular and failure to open files from network shares can
be daunting esp. if the archive is like 4 gig large and you don't have
local disk space for the operation.

I can try to enter the path in file-roller itself
smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/shared/file.name.zip and nothing happens, the input
box helped me to enter the path though, so the gnome itself is aware of
the share. It even asked me for permission to access password storage.

I seem so vague about this - I really have some terminology problems so
please be graphical in descriptions, more familiar with command line
than gui :D Command line is simple and this is compllicated...

Hope it is of any help, though it makes no sense to me. Just ask for any
further info I can provide coz I'd like to see this insect squashed.

Thanks for the interest

[Bug 108761] Couldn't open any new programs or log out

2007-04-22 Thread Sam Morris
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

One of my user's X sessions seemed to get wedged today. I could open
some new windows (like nautilus windows) but other programs (e.g.,
gnome-terminal) would not open. According to strace, they were blocked
on reading from a file descriptor; according to lsof, this file
descriptor was a UNIX socket.

Particularly irritating was the fact that the logout menu option didn't
do anything, so the user couldn't log out.

[Bug 108761] Re: Couldn't open any new programs or log out

2007-04-22 Thread Sam Morris
I've noticed some more oddness today. When the screen is locked, and the
Switch User button is pressed, nothing happens. When I go to Quit -
Switch User, the mouse cursor goes into the 'busy/launching a program'
animation. From then on, I can't open new programs, and if I select Quit
again, nothing happens.

I once got an error dialog saying that GDM couldn't be launched, but I
didn't write down the exact message, and I haven't managed to trigger it
again.

[Bug 84876] Re: Gnome settings manager error to start desktop

2007-04-22 Thread DrSketch
I'm having the same problem on a fresh install of Feisty. When I tried sudo
ifup lo (like Shum), it reported that interface lo already configured. Pinging
my localhost did not return any errors either. I have attached the requested
information. Ignore the Microcode errors in dmesg, as I have been encountering
them since Dapper and haven't had a chance to fix them (they don't seem to
affect anything).
In addition, when I try running gnome-settings-daemon, it returns this text:

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1948 error_code 2 request_code 144 minor_code 29)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
